Ranulf reminds me of Arjac now that i think of it, whom is my fav char in the dex i think.

Not only was the story of Ranulf in the 2nd Edition Codex, he was even an available Special Character. I believe that Arjac was, in fact, modeled after Ranulf's concept.

Here is my Ranulf model, painted in 1994 soon after the release of the 2nd Edition Space Wolves Codex. The base model was the old Wolf Guard Terminator Sergeant, and I swapped out the Power Weapon for the old Power Fist with Auxiliary Grenade Launcher to make it "special", since Ranulf had an unmodified Strength of 7:

Harek Ironhelm (battling Magnus) and Ulrik killing 3 World Eaters in hand to hand and getting the salute from their Lord is also pretty cool. His fluff isnt particularly amazing but Ive always had a liking for Durfast Of Mordrak.

Yeah I love the Ranulf fluff as well, but,if this is allowed, I'd like to nominate the fluff warhorse and the others are coming out with, I just love it!

Hell, Beef, Bjorn himself was the first Great Wolf (title he was given after Russ left), so it's where he used to reside!

Jesus base str of 7 AND he used a power fist? what a noob.. with a frost weapon he coulda be god! He woulda killed all the orcs! Hahhaha.

 

What was comparable str back then, though? Like.. what was Logan's str? As far as chars go, Arjac is the strongest char in the current SW book, i think. Noone else appears to sport higher then 4, save Arjac.

Going all off of memory, since I'm at work and my old codex is at home, I believe the only Frost Weapon around at the time was Ragnar's Frostfang. Also, in 2nd Edition, using a Power Fist did not automatically cause you to attack last, so there wasn't the same drawback as there is these days. Using a Power Fist wasn't a bad idea at all for him, and accounts for the stacks of Ork bodies.

Weapon Skills and Ballistic Skills were generally higher (an Assassin was WS 8, IIRC), but Strengths were pretty much the same, so a Strength of 7 then was significantly higher than everybody elses (prior to adjustments for certain Strength enhancing weapons, like Power Axes, Power Fists, Lightning Claws, Thunderhammers, etc.). I'll have to look up Logan's strength from back in 2nd when I get home.

Back in 2nd, Space Marine heroes and mighty heroes had a Strength and Toughness of 5, and a WS/BS of 7. Even their Initiative was higher: a hero had an I6 and a Mighty Hero had an I7 (but initiative was not as important in combat as it is in 3rd ed. onwards)

Not only did Ranulf have s7 he could choose to make one s10 attack if he so wished.

 

Logan was s6 BTW.
