SJumppanen
Not sure what wolves you have seen, but i think that the ones from goblin wolfrider-set are best ones there is. Warhorse47
If you just want some nice big wolves for meat shields, Dungeons and Drsgons Dire Wolves look very good. I even used them at first for TWC: http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff303/Kevin-Andra/003-15.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/201275-fernisan-wolfs/#findComment-2398069 Share on other sites
WulfenBrother
I use some bigger dire wolves for my Ragnar and i think the models looked pretty good. Here are some pics of mine. The one on the right is definitely bigger than the old dire wolves from GW. http://i313.photobucket.com/albums/ll378/dminor13/IMG_0569.jpg http://i313.photobucket.com/albums/ll378/dminor13/IMG_0570.jpg http://i313.photobucket.com/albums/ll378/dminor13/IMG_0571.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/201275-fernisan-wolfs/#findComment-2398116 Share on other sites

LoneSniperSG
If you mean the actual GW ones, they WERE the Vampire Counts Dire Wolves, but that particular one has been replaced with the newer, zombie-looking Dire Wolves. Greenstuff some fur on the current Vampire Counts Dire Wolves and you've got a big, burly wolf. Wolf Lord Loki
I've bought some of these. They are metal cast and the halves need a little bit of green stuff to marry up but the models are spot on (I have 2 of each and it makes for a diverse wolf pack!) ;) Fenris Wolves I Fenris Wolves II Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/201275-fernisan-wolfs/#findComment-2403027 Share on other sites
Gman
Those gamezoneminiatures models look great, at least the second set does. The in the first set looks like he got shot and is falling. Not good. I think if you went to your LGS and looked through the Darkraven fantasy style minis you could find some wolves. Or if you want official GW product, go look at the Fastasy, Woodelves section. In the bits area (online store) you can bits buy the wolves of Orion. Go to the GW site and type wolves in the search box. The first thing on the list should be a set of five wolves for $15. I'm not sure what they look like put together, but my local store has started carrying them since the wolf dex came out. n00b in need
hey thanks guys, i ended up buying some Chaos Warhounds from my local store from the Classic Warhammer cause i'm doing a tourny and you have to have official GW mini's if you want to use them in the tournament. they are kinda spikey but i'm playing a lost company that's been stuck in the warp for 700 years so it seems to make sense to me that they'd end up getting a little mutatedish, while the marines where locked in cryo and being protected by the All Father, Russ, and the company's rune priests, the wolves where not so lucky and got alittle mutated but it just makes them more ferocious in battle =D i could have used the goblin wolf rider's wolves that they have on the GW site but those weren't available at my local GW store for a few more weeks and i'm very impatient when it comes to my minis, and the only reason i think to get big wolves is to get them for Thunder Wolf Cavalry, since this isn't Lord of the Rings and there isn't a In the Way save for each model blocking sight of what your shooting at and you only get a 4+ save wither the model completely blocks sight or not, it just looks so weird to me with some giant wolves the size of a dreadnought running around so much bigger than your marines. although thats just me. Gman
So how many actually use these guys in a list? How many, and how are they best used to get your points out of them? Just seems that even moving as beasts, with that save they will get mowed down fast by fire before getting into combat. I'm asking because I'm trying to find a way to spend the last 62 points to get my list to 1750. For 56 points I can get 5 normal wolves and one cyber wolf, and just wondered if it was worth it. I think they are best used as bullet sponges for a TWM Lord if you do a full 15 or as a group of two to four to accompany a Ironpriest or LW or WL. Though Probably you would do better in throwing in a couple extra goodies on the rest of your units rather then a squad of wolves. Though if you did,I would use them as a counter attack for infiltrators. Its also a good idea if you are going to do that to get one character with a oath of the wolfkin for the higher leadership and Initiative so you do your damage before most targets. Gman
OK that's pretty much what I was figuring on them. If you do use a whole unit of them, send them up fast to engage light infantry, if nothing else tie them up a turn or two. And if you did a hammer unit of Ragnar, wolf priest with wolfkin saga and 14 wolves and cyberwolf. They get a bunch of attacks, and initiative 6 so they can even go before many characters. Vorion
Back when I was Vanilla SMs I played a doubles tourny where my partner used them to keep long range units from fireing on our advancing troops or to stop hammer or assault units before they could get to our devestator squads. They are good at just being a pain for a couple turns while you take care of important matters Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/201275-fernisan-wolfs/#findComment-2411116 Share on other sites
