Glendor
How would you model an assault cannon onto a razorback? It looks from the website that the razorbacks do not come with an assault cannon in to box. Thanks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/201286-assault-cannon-razorbacks/ Share on other sites

Thanks You can always steal the twin-linked assault cannon turret piece from a Land Raider Crusader/Redeemer kit, or a Baal Predator. Failing that, get assault cannons from Land Speeder kits, or use Tau burst cannons. There's lots of options. ValourousHeart
Including this one... GW bitz page, 2 tornado assault cannons if you don't have any in your bitz box already. Red Fury
the 2 tornado assault cannons bits pack is a good economical choice for sure. To do it up properly you need the ass cannons from a land raider crusader though. And unfortunatly these are not found cheap anywhere. On ebay you get the cannons and weapon mount for about $20 or you can get the upgrade sprue from GW for $20 and have a bunch of bits left over, always nice, and free shipping from gw too! Crusader Pack linky For that price though you could make 3 out of the tornado guns... -Fury Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/201286-assault-cannon-razorbacks/#findComment-2398115 Share on other sites
Whitefireinferno
There are pics of a converted one in my sig if you wanna see made from DA asscans and a heavybolter turret and it looks perfect lol if I do say so myself. Descendant of Dante
The Tornado guns from GW Bits I believe are made of metal, while those from the Landraider Crusdeemer and Land speeder Kits are obviously plastic. I will be building mine just as Whitefireinferno has,I hope that they look as Killer :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/201286-assault-cannon-razorbacks/#findComment-2398199 Share on other sites
Red Fury
Those that Whitefireinferno used looked pretty darn nice mated to the HBs like that. They might be just a tad long for ass cannons but actually look very nice, I wish the baal's stuck out a bit more. Too bad you have to sacrafice the HBs though. I can't seem to justify an extra 35 points for the ass cannons so end up using the HBs most of the time instead. I just converted some TL HFlamers that need some paint, I'm looking forward to that. Here are the ass cannons from the DA box: ebay link I've watched these on auction several times and they seem to go for 10-15 bucks in the end. Still a good deal for 6. -Fury Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/201286-assault-cannon-razorbacks/#findComment-2398213 Share on other sites
ValourousHeart
@ Whitefireinferno - That is just what I was imagining when I suggested the metal assault cannons... to link them up with the HB. I also have tons of AC from my ravenwing battalion boxes... but assumed that Glendor (OP) didn't have any. @ Red Fury - 35 pts is cheap for what an assault cannon offers... Just consider what you are getting for those points. +1S +1 shot Rending So all and all you are more likely to do more damage to an infantry squad. And it is possible to pen AV14... although I would stick to AV10 to AV12... and side or rear armor. I saw it long ago in the BA forum), Assault Cannons are better at popping AV14 than Lascannons! I've killed land raiders with lascannons. I've never even glanced a land raider with an assaultcannon. My experience says assault cannons never renc when firing on vehicles. SamaNagol
Statistically the difference between scoring a Pen with a T/L Lascannon and a T/L Assault Cannon are nearly equal, with the Assault Cannon being fractionally higher. This increases for every lower level armouir value apart from I think AV12 for some reason. And of course they are vastly superior at killing infantry. However they suck at killing Monoliths and Wave Serpents/Falcons Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/201286-assault-cannon-razorbacks/#findComment-2401507 Share on other sites
Rorschach
Ravenwing sprue have the Assault Cannons that best match the size proportions of a Razorback turret. And they're plastic! However they suck at killing Monoliths and Wave Serpents/Falcons The reason is because at AV 12, you have already rolled a 6 to pen, and so the variance is a full 3/3 whilst AV 11 is a 5,6 AV 12 is a 6 and the rending roll doesn't matter, but the rending must be included AV 13 needs a 6 then a 2 So the difference is because you leap from 11 on a 5 to at least a 13 on a 6 ;) +++ Sama speaks the Mathhammer truth on LC and AC against armour. :cuss What the LC does offer is twice the range Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/201286-assault-cannon-razorbacks/#findComment-2401532 Share on other sites
SamaNagol
I was INCREDIBLY lucky to find someone in France selling just the twin Assault Cannon from the Land Raider Crusader kit for 7Euros each, so I bought all 3 pairs they had on sale. They fit perfectly because they are made to sit on that mounting anyway for the Land Raider. Now because I have magnetized them and intend on painting the housings black, I can now use them on any Razorback I ever build. I'll be using them on my Space Wolves Razorbacks when I get round to building them and anything else in the future. So it was a great investment for me. I must say, I did see the conversion using the Land Speeder Assault Cannon barrels cut off and attached to the Heavy Bolters in place of the original barrels and they did look very good. So if you can only find those, I would certainly recommend that as an alternative.
