cheesy Wolfstandard

Hi all,

I played a game against blood angels yesterday ( wich I won ) but there was a guy who also play space wolves and he use his wolf standard on a really cheesy way. The rule says you can reroll all your 1 dices in that assault face ( we dont know to hit to wound,.... ) I use the standard to reroll to hit and to wound ( only the 1 ) but he also use the standard for his failed armour saves and inv saves in that assault face ( also only the dices with one eye )

I thought " can't be true " but there is no rule that say you can't....... so we are able to use it like that.

What do you think ?

The armour saves is one of the best bits, enabling you to save that poor Grey Hunter which costs more than the banner itself.

Also brilliant if you throw in Terminator/Runic characters/pack leaders as it makes them more likely to survive during a particularly epic combat.

You could also reroll Ragnar's insane charge if you get a one, giving you better odds on more attacks

from difficult terrain tests to armour saves and the I roll to break off everything you do in the assault phase is covered except ld tests as you cannot roll a 1 (double one=2)

thats why wolf totems are awesome-sauce and a staple part of almost every grey hunter squad.

Do realize that it is only used once per game use, in one assault phase. Either yours or your opponents.

Works on ragnars insane bravado - my understanding because you use a D3 - that means a 1 or 2 on the die.

Armor penatration rolls (except when using a meltabomb since it is 2 dice added together like leadership rolls)

Vehichle damage table rolls

Difficult / dangerous terrain rolls

To hit

To wound

Armor saves

Invuln saves

Not sure if I am missing anything.

Remember its only for the unit it's in, so it can be only used once for that unit.

True, but its a nasty piece of wargear none-the-less. Four Grey Hunter packs, is a nasty prospect when they get to re-roll any 1's for that phase.

What does OP stand for?

I have been advocating the banner since I first used it. Combine the banner with MoTW and a PF Wolfguard (Possibly in Term Armor) and your pack is awesome.

8 GH, Standard, MoTW, Flamer, Wolfguard w/PF + HF in a Pod is a great unit for not to expensive.

Banners make Powerfists and Termi armor totally awesome.

They can save your MoTW if he rolls a one, as well as increasing his rending chances.

They can also get you a charge when you need it as well as save models on dangerous terrain.

They DO NOT work for LD tests - the only reason to re-roll a 1 anyway is to try for the fail. Wolves don't do that... Even if you want them too.

Why wouldn't it work on leadership or armor pen (melta) rolls? If you roll a 1 on either dice you would reroll that dice. If you roll two ones you can reroll both dice.

Maybe I am just reading too much into it but if someone would explain how the rules play out that'd be much appreciated.

I'm pretty sure GW FAQed the leadership saying no. As for melta it only works in the assault phase, so it would only work if those were melta bombs or a chainfist on an attached Character or WG.

Because 2d6 means you add the numbers together for your actually roll result. Therefore the number range is 2-12, which means there is no chance of a 1 as a result. It's the same reason that you WOULD reroll a 2 on d6 when you roll Ragnar's d3 extra attacks as a 2 still represents a 1 result on the die roll.
