Landspeeder

ive recently been using the tornado but only because it compliments my army as it gives long range mobile fire support.

the thing with landspeeders is they are versatile. if you need to deal with hordes they can, if you need to kill armour they can. it depends what you are lacking in your forces as to how to equip them. if you struggle against vehicles go the multi melta route as it fills a hole in your army.

its hard to say which is better as they are both used for completely different roles

I like the typhoon missile launcher and multi-melta. Primary role is a mobile krak missile delivery system with an emergency melta shot on heavy armor.

If I need to save some points I can keep the HB instead of the MM.

The assault cannon is nice but the close ranges mean you have to expose your paper thin armor.

Multimelta + Heavy Flamer. Relatively cheap, versatile and can possibly be used as semi suicide unit. (deepstriking). Multimelta on a fast/deepstriking platform is pretty nice; the Heavy flamer is cheap enough to take it.

And indeed the Typhoon with MM or HB is very nice too; possibly better than the setup I suggested, but it depends on the list.

Recently, I've been using one with 2 MM's. I know, it seems redundant, but it increases the reliability of my anti-tank tactics.

I'd love to use a typhoon, but the extra 40pts seems very expensive

Only 10pts more than what your paying for the 2xMelta.

I agree with the comments on missile launchers... they really are the way forward. I'll also throw the cheap(ish) MM/HF config into the ring - a pair of these in reserve can be a nasty surprise for your opponent late in the day and won't break the bank. Paperthin armour at the relevant ranges though, as mentioned above. This isn't a config for a loner though, so stick with a ML if your going for just one...

A month or two after 5th ed came out, all one heard was how Land Speeders were finished, but it seems at least here most people still use them. I took the wolves for a run yesterday, 1750 pts against a BA list and romped home with the Land Speeders taking out his Predators and a squad of troops.

I mostly use the MM/HF but I do have a couple of AC/HB speeders, TiguriusX mentioned using MM/MM speeders and I could do this with one of mine, it would pack quite a punch. Anyone else running twin MM's on their speeders?
