Arjac vs wgpl in tda w/TH & SS

I posted part of this over in the army lists section http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...howtopic=201395 , but I wanted to post it here and also hopefully get people to look at my list and tell me how many killpoints I am giving up in scenario 3 of Ard Boyz. (this will be my 1st ard boyz tourney and I intend to at least bring a fun list, but I would like to try to be somewhat competitive.

Whats the benefits of a pack leader in TDA with SS/Th vs Arjac beyond cost alone. I feel that the cost is worth it in the fact that he has 3 attacks base and 5 on the 1st round of combat (assuming charge or counter attack) He also sports a wtn and a special rule vs IC/MC's. Both of those are prime examples of why I would add a wgpl in the squad to begin with (the other being protection against walkers and a str 10 thunderhammer is absolutely helpful)

Also Arjac is immune to Dante's and the Sanguinor's special rules as he isn't an independent character, but honestly that's just bonus points IMO.

So is there something else I am missing about why not to take him?

Well, I've also been amazed first by Arjac.

Since then, I realized that for his cost, you get 3 wolf guards in TDA w/SS and TH. Drop a TH or two for powerfists (the overall effect on large enemies or tanks will be the same), and you can get 2-3 combi-meltas. Thus, here you get 9 attacks at str. 8 (some of which have TH effetcs), 3 shots of melta, and 3 wounds (here again having the same effect as Eternal Warrior). Same inv. save. The stubborness of Arjac is rarely an issue, so I came up with the conclusion that most of the times, the wolf guard setup is better.

Just my grain of salt!

It depends on how you view Arjac. I don't view him as a normal WG. I view him as an HQ equivalent for hero and MC hunting. He is an alternative to a WL/WGBL with TWC (only way to get S10 TH).

Arjac can wield his S10 TH while in a pack of 10GHs benefitting from a wolf standard or hidden in a large amount of BCs and he counts as scoring if he is left standing at the end of the match.

I am going to run Arjac in a squad of GH's. IMO i view him as an untargetable hero. Yes I can get 3 more wg, but I guess for me.. I don't have a place for 3 more wg. Also I want Arjac to keep my GH's nice and safe and happy. No longer will an AV12 dread frustrate my str 8 pfist wielding wg. Also with eternal warrior, I am not so afraid to take that big hit on him in the event of a failed storm shield save.

Not a bad choice. Arjac is priced competitively if you compare him to a similarly equipped WGBL (Arjac's wargear is 105pts by itself). The difference in I is not an issue because of the TH and he is an untargetable hero with special rules including the ability to count as scoring.

Should have fun using him!
