i got this from the first thread I saw on paining on here

its simple but without sounding cocky my army is in the top 5 of the 100 or so armies that attend my gaming group

astromicon grey undercoat

wash of asurman blue

dry brush of 1:1 mix of space wolf and fortress grey

the yellows are done with a base coat of tau sept ochre and then golden yellow in thin layers

Base coat chaos black

For charecters, long fangs and wolf guard shadow grey then a light drybrush of codex grey, for everyoone else, shadow grey with a drybrush of space wolves grey, and everyone gets orange shoulderpads with goblin green trim.

Well I paint every pack slightly different than other. With a little tone change.

My base is always a mix of shaow grey and sw grey, down with shadow and some dark tone and hilights with sw grey and some lighter tone (bleached bone, some light blue, etc)

Here you have a sample of all my wip packs, some of them without toning yet.

Primed black

Basecoat Fenris Grey

Heavy drybush Shadow Grey

Badab Black wash

Armour panels painted 50/50 mix of Shadow Grey and Space Wolves Grey

Edges highlighted Space Wolves Grey

Light drybrushing of Space Wolves Grey

It take a really long time but it looks great when it's finished. I modify the system slightly for vehicles; I skip the Shadow Grey.

Primed: Black

Basecoat: 3/4 Scab Red 1/4 Mechrite Red (so its 1 coat)

Washed with Badab Black

Heavy Dry brush of Red Gore

Details, inner parts of shoulder pads are black with Boltgun Metal on the weapons.

Painted to look similar to Red Corsairs as they are Wolves who escaped and are hiding while trying to make their way back to the Fang by any means, and will seek repentance when they arrive.

Takes me a while to paint the unit as I paint the parts seperatly and then glue them together but they look really nice when finished.

Chaos Black undercoat

Badab Black Wash

Codex Grey drybrush for highlights

Still deciding on the rest of the colours for the models, i'm going for a "gritty" looking army. Here is a pic of a work in progress Grey Hunter with Wolf Standard

GHs: SW Grey with Bloodred shoulders, white, red, black, and yellow for trims/details/chest peices. Black symbol.

WG: SW Grey with black for the pack shoulder, bloodred for the company, copper for some trim. Yellow symbol.

Bloodclaws: SW Grey with Bloodred shoulders, white/red/black/silver trim etc. Yellow Symbol.

LFs: SW Grey with black pack shoulder, bloodred for the company, silver trim. White symbol.

Scouts: SW Grey and Grey. some black trimwork.

WL: Silver trimmings.

WP: Black, with gold trimmings.

RP: SW Grey with Blue trimmings and brown robes.

I use Adeptus Battle Grey for the primary color. When I take my time, and want to do a really nice job, I layer on highlights of Codex and Fortress Grey with the Adeptus Battle Grey.

This makes for a more "true grey", not the baby blue you see on the GW stuff. I haven't experimented with washes or that sort of stuff to try shading.

Although, at the moment I am experimenting adding Space Wolves Grey to the highlights. This would give you the effect of it being bluish, but without actually being blue.

Model Master F-15 dark grey, with a much dark grey and light grey from the same brand. I use flat black as the primer. Then Airbrush the f-15 on as the primery color. Then I do camoe with the darker and light grey. I believe it's more realistic. And there is pics of space wolves in camoe so I went for it.
