savis
I landed a converted dreadnought from ebay based on the old metal venerable dreadnought. The problem is it's been converted to hell and back using excessive amounts of green stuff. I've gone through the process of scraping most of it off which went well. However there is a lot left in cracks and crevices that obscures a lot of the details. Any pointers how to get rid off it? Can I dissolve it in some way or am I stuck with trying to scrape it of without ruining the details? If this has been asked before I appologize, I looked up the FAQ and tried the search engine but came up with nothing. Thanks for any pointers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/201492-removing-green-stuff/ Share on other sites
WingsOfTheFalcon
I've just been experimenting with stripping paint and found that using Flash general surface cleaner will strip paint and after about 3-4 days will soften up all superglue bonds and green stuff, to the point where you can lift it off with your finger. It might not work so well if you've only got bits left in the crevasses but worth a shot? One thing though the product does tarnish the colour of the metal, though it's not really a problem if you're about to paint it! :) Here's my full detail post/tutorial about it. Liquid_awesomes
if you can get hold of it, asatone (?) strips paint and pretty much everything else from a model. however, i don't know how to get hold of it outside of my work. be warned, it melts plastic in a flash so don't dunk any plastic you want i it. Brother Valerius
As exodial said, acetone should work (pretty sure that it's in any nail polish remover) if it's a metal model. mathhammer
On metal acetone, finger nail polish remover will clean it up. Walmart sells a high strength non scented clear type. (also most big hardware stores) Also Simple green will rehydrate it and makes it into playdoo. I would soak in simple green for about 2 weeks in a air tight container (plastic tuper wear, glass bottle used for canning) and the scrub it down with a soft tooth brush, then soak it in acetone for 48 hours (air tight). At that point use a pick modeling tool and clean the lines. (yes been there done this) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/201492-removing-green-stuff/#findComment-2402173 Share on other sites
