Sven Bloodhowl

Death Wolf

Recommended Posts

Hail Brothers,

I recently decided that a major repaint and remodel of my space wolves is in order and have decided on running the great company of Sven Bloodhowl.

There is very little fluff in the codex on Sven's company, but what is there says they are a "great horde of close combat specialists" and "practice dangerous acts of fire breathing" so I was thinking that lots of wolf guard and flamers would seem fluffy.

But other then that I am at a real loss for what to include in a list, any suggestions?

Flamers for the Red Hunters of course.

Sven himself gets a bit of a mention in the Wolf Lord entry, from that I'd expect him to be power armoured, weilding a Thunder Hammer.

If you want to remain even more to fluff, give Sven a combi-Flamer as well, although model wise I'd love to see that worked into the Hammer.

As for his Wolf Guard, I would focus on them being the close combat specialists, give them power weapons to help Sven out.

Fortunate for you, I have just finished the book 3 of the Space Wolf Omnibus series, and I have plenty of fluff on Sven ;). First of all, he is one of my favorite characters because he is just a total smart-ass. He never really takes anything seriously, and always teases Ragnar Blackmane and the rest of the squad. He looses one of his eyes in a fire-fight, so a bionic eye or eye-patch would be needed. He also lost a hand to Madox, a chaos sorcerer so a bionic hand could be depicted. I haven't gotten any further into the series yet to find out how he gets his own Company because I haven't boughten the rest of the books yet. Other than that's all I can tell you about his physical features. His personality is absolutely awesome and he makes the book very entertaining. Absolutely one of my most favorite characters. For his squad I would have Longfangs whenever you can use them along with flamers because Sven was a total havok-reaking maniac. And as for his wolf-guard I would definetly make them as CQB-oriented as possible. Hope this helps! :D

I'm doing sven as well and here's what I'm doing:

-Sven in TDA with Twin Wolf Claws (or Frost Axe & Storm Shield), Belt o' russ* (if wolf claws), Wolftooth Necklace,Wolftail Talisman, Saga of a Warrior Born

-2 units of 10 Bloodclaws with no upgrades, both in Drop Pods

-10 Grey Hunters with Flamer and Melta and Wolf Guard (TDA, Powerfist, Assault Cannon)

-4 Wolf Guard- All in TDA, 1 with twin wolf claws, 1 with frost axe and storm shield, 1 with chainfist, 1 with thunder hammer and storm shield. In a Drop Pod.

-1 Ven. Dread. with Extra Armour, Wolftail Talisman, Wolftooth Neckalce, Assault Cannon. In a Drop Pod.

-5 wolf scouts with meltagun and power weapon. (If using Sven with Frost axe this is swapped for Iron priest on Thunderwolf with 4 cyber wolves, my little 'Strike Force')

As you can see I've stuck mostly to combat with lots of combat units getting there fast and a nice little mobile fire base that can handle itself, but I've also stuck to the fire aspect with a flamer and melta.

But thats how I see him, you may have different ideas but at least you have a fellow bloodhowl's ideas

* How the Blet of Russ should be spelt ^_^

::EDIT:: With the write upgrades to the Drop Pods (i.e. Deathwind Missile Launchers) this comes to around 1,500 pts

Sorry to say this but I don't think the Sven from the Ragnar novels is intended to be the same character as Bloodhowl.

Well I just bought the last portion of the series today, and still haven't read far enough into it yet to confirm Sven is Sven Bloodhowl. I don't see why not however, many of the Space Wolf HQ's are at least mentioned in the novel. Stryborn, another important character in the book is also said to have a company in the codex although once again I haven't read far enough to see if they are the same person but I would find it very strange if they weren't. I will keep this thread updated if I find out, but don't hold you breath because it is a very large novel

There is no mention in the Space Wolf series of them ever attaining anything beyond Grey Hunter status for Sven and Strybjorn. It ends with Ragnar still in Wolfblade. Also in the series, I do believe it mentions the death of his old packmates. Nothing about them getting their own companies, especially as Ragnar is the youngest ever Wolf Lord, and therefore highly unlikely that either Sven or Strybjorn, who were same age, to have a company.

As for the original topic, lots of flamers and meltas, try and arm all WG and Sven with close combat weapons, more powerful the better.
