Morticon's Storm Raven- "Koyote Pattern"

Walk Through:

You will need need:

1x Valkyrie kit.

1x A little bit of card.

There are a few bits I used in my conversion that came from multiple valk kits -i'll show you where later

STEP ONE - The hull

The most important and biggest change you need to do on this model is to trim the hull of the valk kit so you can elongate it.

This is very easy to see on Koyotes model here ->

Basically this is 80% of the card work you need to do.

The length of extension on my model is about 2.5inches - with the back of the hull capping the card..

Its fairly easy to see from Koyotes model.

Cut three pieces of 2.5inches long, as high as the hull and as wide.

The fourth piece(PART A) must be shaped to fit the hull cap(PART C) at the back- again you see you this under the SR in the pic above.

In my model, I used the another Valk hull - but not everyone will want to cut up two very expensive models for one thing - and I wouldnt suggest it (I just had two half kits)

STEP TWO - Wings and things

Once you have that hull built, the wings are pretty easy to see where they're placed.

Koyote has his in the middle, but ive gone for a slightly (cooler? ) more jet-like look by moving them to the back of the hull.

You may want to duplicate the tail fin cards of the valk for the SR. This is fairly easy done by tracing over card with the actual piece - easy as, yeah?

That way you can use more piece later (especially the bottom front fins, which I used for the back tail!)

The back tail is made from the same pieces the front, bottom fins are made from. Since there is a bit of an angle on it, i shaved it down so the top tail fin would be more or less level.

I would recommend using the card duplicates for the tail.

I also used two big Valk fins to make my back tail fin - so you will need to either make your own, or duplicate the Valk one -i suggest simply making your own top tail fin.

(ill try get more pics to show you specifically).

STEP THREE- The Cockpit

This next part there is some fine cutting, so make sure you have a very sharp blade.

The triangle piece(PART B ) of the Valk kit should fit nice and snugly on the top in an obvious place -

You may need to trim the inside ridge of said triangular piece though to make it fit better, but otherwise the location should be obvious. Stick that baby on.

From that point you need grab the valk cockpit pieces and cut where the first groove is (The RED box on the cockpit piece). This is going to form the base of the cockpit - the pieces directly under the window.

You then need to do the same thing and chop off the front section too (The BLUE box on the cockpit piece)

http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/2307/sprue1.jpg

This front piece will be at a slight angle on the downward part of the ravens nose - so it needs to be separate from the piece you cut above, or there will be a huge gap underneath.

The piece that would usually go on the front nose of the valk cockpit goes on that piece too (the part directly below PART B) - as you can see from Koyote and my pic.

STEP FOUR- Trimmings

Since the cockpit is a bit fatter than PART B, if you put PART D up against it, you get handy looking lights and it guises the architectuaral flaws :tu:

As for the rest, its fairly simple - the engines go where they go (if you can get a second set- awesome- if not- its fine with one.)

From that point I think you will have the base of it lookin hot hot and the rest if up to your creativity.

This is my first time doing a tut of anything ><; So i hope that wasnt too convoluted.

Cheers,

Mort.

A MULTI PART PLASTIC KIT OF THE STORMRAVEN IS COMING OUT IN SEPTEMBER!!!!

Im so sorry to tell you so late that you have already made one but it kicks ass!

GW should throw out those moulds and give Morticon a call. :cuss

Really nice tutorial there, please don't stop.

wow thats one of the best Storm ravens I've seen. I dont know if id have the courage to cut up such an expensive kit though.

well matey - to be fair, the new SR model will be as expensive if not more so. And theres not too much that can go wrong ^^;

or you can make one yourself by probably paying the same amount or more( my manager said it will be either 30 or 50 pounds) on a valkyrie and another tank

Im confused by this comment

isnt this thread about making one by yourself for the same cost as a Valk ??

Advice needed please guys.

I Saw a scheme at the tourney that I really liked. It was very very simple and looked cool.

It was very light mechrite red drybrushing with scab highlights.

Gave for a very dark, cool looking red.

I kinda screwed it up though, and over did it on the one wing while I was testing it out.

I dont know what to do now.

Should I rebase and re-do and make it like the other side ><; or do it regular style...

i dont know what to do.

left wing - light brush

http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/4764/img1256yw.jpg

right wing - over brush

http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/1779/img1257y.jpg

front- over brush

http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/9484/img1258i.jpg

Basically my question now is;

do I rebase and redo it lighter like the left wing, or do I do the left wing on the right and front and do a light brush.

Help please.

You can also check out more of what im aiming for in my

Tourney BatRep Thread vs. the IG player- his stuff is done this colour/style.

Sadly scrapped the idea - and went for the style that ive been doing my models.

Base mechrite, few thin layers of scab...then need to highlight and wash with devlan when i get it!

But this is what its lookin like ->
