OoZo
Hey everyone. Im a new 40k player and bought a couple of years back a bunch of space marines. A couple of weeks back we started a gaming group at the university and since we have educated people, lawyers and economists among us, we found a pretty big loop-hole in the Swedish "economic support" system. Which if I explain it very bluntly pays for our warhammer and all paint and stuff needed, we are also sponsored by GW and local retailers. We decided that i would build the space marine army so our members (and me) :), could use it and have fun. After a while i found the few models I had bought years ago and now i need to expand it to a fun army list. The models i have atm is: A chaplain with jump pack Assault squad x 9 2x10 tactical squad 5 x terminators 4x scouts 6x devestators Somehow i have painted all my units in a dark purple color, but it looks awesome, when i bought them just wanted to paint them , cuz the looked cool(and was much more fun to paint then knights of the realm and grail knights). Im not sure what fraction i should pick, but after looking at the new releases of Blood angel i've becomed quite in love with them. The goal is a 1750p army or 2000p. Now i need your knowledge: 1. What fraction should i pick, ultra, blood, dark angels and so on, and why? :P 2. what units should i expand the army with?, what units should i buy? (i loove very aggressive armies) 3. I know i will face altreast tyranids and imperial guards!(maybe chaos) Thanks for all your help!
jimbo1701
Well, first welcome to the BnC and congratulations on your loophole funding you and your friends hobbying. (wish there was one to exploit over here) Looking at your list I would say it fits any of the above armies just fine, though you may wish to add one more member to each of the scout and assault squad for added flexibility. What you should aim for first of all is a couple of tanks - make at least one of those a rhino. When you decide which army you want to play as then a dreadnought would be good too. I have several SM armies but am of course biased towards the angels - with a couple of death company boxes you could mix in a few models to each of you squads for variety. Also purple is quite a nice BA sucessor chapter colour. There are several articles on each of the individual pages to help out new starters for each army. Maybe read some of the background at Lexicanum.com and go from there?
OoZo
Thank you so much for your quick reply! I would recommend you to talk with poeple at your closest GW store the usually know local groups, The interest from GW in our case is the reason that all of us are studying at the university and we have a pretty high avarage age (23+). We declarete our gaming time as "eductaion in strategic warfare" and write it down as history time. And when we play other games like Magic or Muchkin we write it down as mental preparation for comming job interviews or something else vague.. :) Even the university support our idea! It is all totally fine as long as we dont overuse the time we charge the government for(keep in mind: "little is more") ive decided now that Blood Angels is the way to go! So if i would get a good Blood angel army, except for the dreadnaught, what else should i put in the shopping cart? Best Regards Filip
jimbo1701
Welcome on board! In that case I would say the best thing to do is invest in 1-2 rhinos and perhaps a Baal predator. At the moment you're running all infantry, which is fine, but I think you'd benefit from the added mobility. Depends how much you've got to spend and whether you want a bit of everything in the army or would prefer a force weighted towards, say, jump packs? OoZo
After reading countless of army lists ive seen some trends in the BA army building: - Assault squads - Baal Preds - Sang. priests - Dreads and some fluffing out with rhinos and razor. Isnt it kinda cheesy to use Mephiston or Astorath? How about the Assault terminators arnt they any good? or are they just too expensive? Ive just played a :) load of fantasy and there are the Special chars usually banned. Best Regards Filip

jimbo1701
Yes, dreadnoughts (furioso/death company) Baal predators and assault squads are the things to take for a BA list. Your army list is from the previous edition so i'd recommend getting a new book as quite a lot has changed recently. Take it from there is the best way forward. SamaNagol
I will tell you the same thing I tell everyone who is starting out with Space Marines, to save you a lot of money in the future.... If you are going to buy ANY transports, do not buy the Rhino box, buy the Razorback box for an extra £2. Do not glue the roof on or the 2 round cuppolas. They will balance on easily. Then you can build both the Rhino roof and cuppola with Storm Bolter, and also build the Rhino gun turret roof and plain closed cuppola and can use your tank chasis as either variant all for £2 more than the price of a Rhino. OoZo
Thanks for your replies, I must start off by apologizing since i have the habit of reading a bunch of forums and different views of the upcoming costs, to maximize the money spent. But sometimes its hard to see when the post is posted and what version of the game the lists is from. Of course a the newest game book will be purchased. SamaNagol that is very good advice it sounds great, never really thought about that option, and that will save the "club" some hard earned bucks. So with my current army: A chaplain with jump pack Assault squad x 9 2x10 tactical squad 5 x terminators 4x scouts 6x devestators How would your "perfect" 1750 BA army look? im facing tyranids, IG and chaos.. all my current models doesnt need to be in the army! Do u have any good army lists that you consider an overall solid army list? Thank you for your patience with me. Best Regards Filip
kollar
That seems like a pretty solid start to be honest. Could do something like; HQ: Reclusiarch w JP (joins the Assault Squad) 155 Elites: Terminator Squad (5): w some gear 200-230 (depending on if it's Assault or Tactical Termies) Troops: Assault Squad (10): power fist, 2x meltaguns, JP's Tactial Squad (10): power fist and assorted weaponry, Rhino ~250 Tactial Squad (10): power fist and assorted weaponry, Rhino ~250 Scouts (5): some gear, Camo cloaks 90 Heavy Support: Devastators (6): with assorted heavy weapons ~160 That's alltogether 1370 points. What you would have to buy for that one, would be two Rhinos (note the Razorback remark above) and one of the new Death Company kits to flesh out your Assault Squad to 10. You can then use the bits in the Death Company box to make Sanguinary Priests for your army for support, and add some Baal's to it as well, and you should have quite a decent army.
