Rage

Just played some ultra smurfs and was happily chipping away at a Ven dread with my DC dreads melta and grapple, when an observer stated that I had to assault the Ven dread because of the rage rule. I bowed to his superior knowledge at the time but on reading the rule slow time, it doesn't state that I have to assault the enemy in the rage rule only move towards or consolidate towards. Am I reading this right.

Cheers

I didn't want to assault the ven dread cause I had blood talons. To be honest my rolls for the DC dread were truly awful. As I had already taken his close combat arm of his Ven the two of them just stood there and tried to bitch slap each other without much effect, that was until he pushed a squad of termies into the fight, which I then targeted and with my blood talons went through them, getting one unsaved wound after another, it was nasty.

After this game I'm not sure its worth arming the DC dread with the grapple and talons at the same time.

I did have a rule book but wasn't refering to it all that much, as it was a very friendly game, and didn't want to interupt the flow with looking up the rules all the time. I usually accept these things at the time and clarify later, and learn for the next game. It was a spectator that insisted that I must assault not my opponent.

Thanks for the info everyone.

As states by other you are correct about the Rage rules.

I would agree with you that it is not worth arming a dread with blood talons and the grapple.

Talons are anti infantry and the grapple is anti tank. The grapple will work nicely against transports to bring the tank and its chewy insides closer to you for an assault, but overall I have found that it is better to pair the grapple with blood fists.

It is ok, every game I play I look at as a learning experience. I don't play to win, I play to get better at the game. You have learned to 1: remember your rule book and 2: how your special rules work. You won't make that mistake again, but there will be many new mistakes to discover we are making. That's the beauty of it.
