Iron Man I Posted May 17, 2010 Share Posted May 17, 2010 I'm currently trying to figure out how to kit out my Captain. I was thinking of running him with a jump pack, inferno pistol and Glaive and sticking him with my jump assault marines. Kind of a mini Dante. Is this even a good idea? Emperors Immortals Posted May 17, 2010 Share Posted May 17, 2010 Ive given my cap a power sword and storm bolter and i run him with a JP HG, there a cheaper VV and im real happy with them, especially cause i can give them meltas or flamers - though ive recently started using a reclusiarch instead. Even Wolf Lords, while not an optimal choice, can be geared up to be monstrous in close assault. Captains are like... marginally cheaper versions of Reclusiarchs without the cool special rules. For my lists, just Captains, i have a few. One, thunder hammer and jump pack. doesn't sound like much, but with the right parts it looks beautiful, and when you don't want him leading the charge, detach the iron halo and have him as a shiny Assault Sergeant. Two... basically a rip-off of Shrike here. Three... Infernus Pistol, Power fist/Thunder Hammer, and bike or jump pack. it's Just an idea, but it's something that Could look impressive if done right, and seems to serve double-duty in the role you've suggested... basically, tank-bashing support for the Assault Squad. bit pricey, but if price mattered you'd just fit some random Sergeant with the same and have a priest watch over them. And Four, not really relevant as you said you wanted a change from Termies, but captain with Lightning Claw, storm bolter, and termi armour. simple, but Very nasty with a small to medium-sized squad of termies as backup/battlecannon fodder ...if you Do go with option one, and money-no-object... Death Co. body, Jump Chaplain's pistol arm/jump pack, and Master of the Fleet's hammer. shoulder pads matching makes the effect even more impressive than i expected it would. Hfran Morkai Posted May 17, 2010 Share Posted May 17, 2010 They botched Captains with 5th edition, not providing a bonus to your force even though those very warriors have sen countless battles and have a vast reserve of knowledge. But they are fun and have lots of options to roll with, offering so many conversion and painting options. I'm a fan of swords over Lightning Claws because I reckon they look better. Infernus Pistol, Power Weapon and Jump Pack sounds like fun. Perhaps some other upgrades on him if you can (not read the BA Captain profile) to make him nastier.
