Astorath and his Fluff

The other day I played a friendly game against one of my friends who plays Vanilla Marines. The game was in my favor from turn one and I ended up with a decent victory which resulted in Astorath and my DC remaining on the table. The DC had seven guys remaining, five standard chain swords, one with a PW and one with a fist. As we were packing up my friend mentioned that Astorath had neglected his duties and had become a slacker. As I looked at him with a puzzled look he pointed at my DC still standing on the table and said “shouldn’t he finished them off?” After a good laugh my friend took control of the DC from where they stood and I controlled Astorath. We rolled off to see who would get to move first and I won. Well I moved 12 inches, shot my pistol wounding one DC but he made his FNP save. I then charged and came up a half inch short! As I was cursing my luck by friend blasted me with his pistols taking a wound off and then charging in. Combat was simo with the FC bonus. Astorath Killed 2 DC before taking 8 regular wounds and 2 PW wounds. I failed 3 reg saves and both pw saves. Astorath was obliterated like a frog in a blender before the fist could even swing. So to sum things up Astorath’s Fluff does NOT hold up on the table top. Still I think ill make it a habit to have this skirmish each time these two units are remaining on the table after a battle.

That was hilarious! Thanks for the story.

Astorath needs the charge, and even then a large DC will probably beat him. All it takes is one guy with a fist/hammer to survive Astorath's swings.

Of course, in fluff I think Astorath takes them out one at a time, not trying to deal with a whole squad of them.

Question is, did the DC benefit from rerolls? ;)

Technically, as they squared off AGAINST each other, they were not in the same unit, therefore they shouldn't benefit from Liturgies.

I love that concept for all other straight-up BA armies toting Astorath around. As for my KoBs, if they survive battle my DC get rounded-up by my non-DC survivors and tasered into stasis and whisked away to another battlefront. Of course if my Libby survives, he simply uses Shackle Soul on them making it less likely anyone else takes additional wounds corraling our esteemed psychopaths. ;)
