escalation campaign help

Recommended Posts

In our campaign (which the past two weeks i've been absent due to my GF) I hold the 3 hive city tiles which make up the capital, plus a manufactorium. My friend who plays iron warriors is going to have a game with me today, I already have a list that will be effective against him. (he holds more tiles so i get more points (in addition to holding extra point tiles)

so i get 240 points more then him, at 500 pts

Astorath

5 man dc with packs with 2 fist

death company dreadnought with magna grapple

vindicator

he runs

lord with fist and mark of khorne

2 squads of chaos marines one with mark of khorne other with lascannon, both with meltas in rhinos

now i have a tile that allows me to give one of my units a USR, what should i use??

also feel free to give critisicm of the list, i went with the DC list since he has made a push towards my city and i lost a battle with his forces before, and i want to stop his army cold.

Well, a few suggestions from someone still building their army and hasn't even played with. But I've done my research.

Astorath is more of a larger army fella than a small points guy. His main attraction is that he gives more units the Red Thirst rule. Seeing as all your troop choices have the black rage, the red thirst does nothing for them. I would recommend taking a Reclusiarch for far less points and giving your death company rerolls to hit and wound when they assault. Seeing as he's using a bit of anti-tank your probably right in going for jump packs over the dedicated transport in my opinion.

Freeing up 75 points from the HQ I would personally change the vindicator. I'm not a fan of this one trick pony, lots are. The reason I would push changing it in this list is a lot of anti-tank shots will go to it initially, odds are if it doesn't get wrecked or otherwise destroyed, your one cannon will be taken out. Making it useless. Look into a Baal Predator with ex armor and HB spons for 160 points if you really want some tank shooty-ness. That way you have multiple guns to fire worrying less about losing the one big cannon that misses in most dire situations and have a longer range. Not to mention you have the scout special rule to play with... Outflanking proves to be pretty effective.

You can most likely get some more models into your DC squad with the extra points. Which is always a good thing. :)

I would probably lean towards putting Scout on your Dreadnought to get that initial move to close the distance to his Rhinos

Or if for some reason you wheren't running Astorath with the Death Company give them Fleet for a possible 24" assault distance
