Brother Hans-Heinrich
Are those personal banners ( page 68 of C: BA ) still used? Seen such backpack-mounted banners no more. Thougth the design is maybe outdated? Would like to know if character and/or sgt field them, last model I've noticed with a 'banner' was the LOD sgt. cptphoenixck
It's really just the vet sergents who've lost the banners.... Mephy's one is only honourary... and the rest a company chapter banner which go on the standard bearer models of an SG or HG squad
bushman101
I think they are just considered 'dress-up' pieces now. Some people consider them to much work to paint and thus leave them off. They were important battle gear back in 3rd ed.
Brother Hans-Heinrich
"mephys" just honorary... but he got a specific personal banner and IIRC the old backpack with banner pole. :P Nobody except captains uses them yet? Why do I find such personal livery in C: BA ? No, C: codexmarines doesn't sport personal banners. Restricted such banner-waving attitude to BA + DA ? Brother Nathan
Ive given 3 to my company, 2 of whic are on chappys and the other is on a termie sargent, because he looked dull compared to the aobr sarge and the other space hulk minis so he really needed some bling. SamaNagol
People just couldn't really be bothered to paint them I assume?
Zeller
Storing that really tall banner marine is also a bit of a pain. Now if say you could cut the banner pole off right where the diameter changes that would be a start. Then maybe you could hollow out the base that attaches to the power plant and lengthen the upper half of the pole by say 3/4 a centimeter so the banner is high enough. ancient god
I use them on leaders without backpacks. :) Provides a nice opportunity to paint cool motifs and looks good on the field.
Wraithwing
I used them extensively in my Dark Angels army, but not for my Blood Angels (they all have Jump Packs, so...). I think it's more of an optional extra these days. Some Chapters lend themselves better to them than others. CC oriented chapters and covert strike oriented chapters probably wouldn't use them. More codex chapters would, I would assume.
glayvin34
I put banners on the backpacks of my tactical sergeants and on my dreadnoughts, because they look so cool. I don't bother painting, I usually just print something out and give it a good coat of varnish. I also magnetize the backpack so that I can take it off for ease of storing. Tame
I still put them on my sergeants. They looks kinda badass, no helmet, power fist, jump pack and banner on the jump pack :-) You can't really miss them on the battlefield.
Sorien
I put them on my tactical sgts but they are magnetized, I don't usually have them on when playing only when being looked at. I also magnetized the banner that came with the ironclad kit I'm using as a furioso.
Venerable Jazzman
Quite a lot of my guys have some form of banner or decoration on their backpacks. If you're going down the No Camouflage route, then you might as well make yourself look as imposing as possible :RTBBB: http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s107/alexicagraphia/lemuel_1.jpg http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s107/alexicagraphia/tc1.jpg http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s107/alexicagraphia/capb1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v110/fatjazzer/commander02.jpg
Isryion
Dreads only for me, and the AoBR Captain who never sees the light of day...
daboarder
My seargents have one each for Personal heraldry, unless they have a jump pack in which case I just bling that up. I'm also planning on adding standard bearers to each unit because it should be cool.
Angelus Mortifer
Dreads, Tac Sgts and Dev Sgts are/will all have one for me (maybe de-packed Asst Sq Sgts too, not sure yet). I just like the "heraldic" notion of a commander always knowing where is troops are in the thick of battle by observing where on the field the personal/squad banners are. BrotherMoses
I love them. They have the same problem I have with attaching purity seals and stuff though. They are delicate. My plasma canon gunner lost his purity seal at 'ardboyz. Made me sad
Jawaballs
I use them on every sergeant. I use little magnets dug into the back pack and afixed to the bottom of the banner pole for storage purposes. I will do a tutorial! You can find a picture of one of them on my Blood Angels blog. Jawaballs
Olgerth Istaarn
I have freehanded backpack banners on the non-jumppack sergeants, and on one Terminator sarge. TBH they are kind of ridiculous, but I am hesitant to pull them off considering how much work went into them. Lately I've seen sergeants sporting a much more low-key backpack toppers, which frankly make them look more... ahhem... realistic... yeah... that's the word. OTT wargear is a part of 40K I suppose, but I'm thinking of dispensing with that part of my gaming past...
