Personal banners at a backpack-still used?

Recommended Posts

Storing that really tall banner marine is also a bit of a pain. Now if say you could cut the banner pole off right where the diameter changes that would be a start. Then maybe you could hollow out the base that attaches to the power plant and lengthen the upper half of the pole by say 3/4 a centimeter so the banner is high enough.

I used them extensively in my Dark Angels army, but not for my Blood Angels (they all have Jump Packs, so...). I think it's more of an optional extra these days. Some Chapters lend themselves better to them than others.

CC oriented chapters and covert strike oriented chapters probably wouldn't use them. More codex chapters would, I would assume.

I put banners on the backpacks of my tactical sergeants and on my dreadnoughts, because they look so cool. I don't bother painting, I usually just print something out and give it a good coat of varnish.

I also magnetize the backpack so that I can take it off for ease of storing.

I put them on my tactical sgts but they are magnetized, I don't usually have them on when playing only when being looked at.

I also magnetized the banner that came with the ironclad kit I'm using as a furioso.

Quite a lot of my guys have some form of banner or decoration on their backpacks. If you're going down the No Camouflage route, then you might as well make yourself look as imposing as possible :RTBBB:

Dreads, Tac Sgts and Dev Sgts are/will all have one for me (maybe de-packed Asst Sq Sgts too, not sure yet). I just like the "heraldic" notion of a commander always knowing where is troops are in the thick of battle by observing where on the field the personal/squad banners are.

I have freehanded backpack banners on the non-jumppack sergeants, and on one Terminator sarge. TBH they are kind of ridiculous, but I am hesitant to pull them off considering how much work went into them. Lately I've seen sergeants sporting a much more low-key backpack toppers, which frankly make them look more... ahhem... realistic... yeah... that's the word.

OTT wargear is a part of 40K I suppose, but I'm thinking of dispensing with that part of my gaming past...
