Olgerth Istaarn
Curious as to how well the golden boys do. In my BA list, I'm thinking of running a squad of them with Chapter Banner and Death masks, plus a priest, mounted in a Storm Raven for a surgical insertion and mayhem. My only concern is that there is so very few of them... how well do they do? spu00sed
I run a pure sang guard army, with a storm raven support. They do great. The small squad size means they can hide easily, and they can pack weapons to take down any armoured vehicle at (short) range. Though it would be nice to be able to give them melta bombs. The only time I lost with them was dawn of war kill points at 1250pts against guard. The guard player combined squads to make a large squad that deployed in a horseshoe shape on the edge of his board edge. First turn an exterminator with plasma cannons rolled into the middle. I couldn't deepstrike next to it, due to the guard, so it managed to vapourise my squads as they landed (the executioner cannon was high enough above the guard shield to ensure they didn't give me a cover save. Foolish me forgot that my big squad with Dante, priest, and Libby could have used shield at the start of the shooting phase. So in concluding, as long as there are other tempting targets for plasma and las cannons, then they can do well. Though I haven't come across hidden fists or power weapons yet. RedMoon
well i have a whole army of them so i LOVE them lol. i would say taking the deathmasks off would save you some points they rarely work. the priest is a must to help keep them alive and swinging with In 5 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/201887-how-are-sanguinary-guard/#findComment-2405332 Share on other sites
Plague Angel
I was amused when I finally got the Sanguard kit and, for all I'd heard about the sculpted armor, only two of the five chests have nipples on them. swing fist with In 5 Huh? Tame
I run a pure sang guard army, with a storm raven support. Out of curiosity, what do your list look like ? Terrahawk
I was amused when I finally got the Sanguard kit and, for all I'd heard about the sculpted armor, only two of the five chests have nipples on them. Yeah, people raving on about the nipples need to get a grip. It's not like there weren't any on BA Special Characters in the past. When I get around to getting some of my own Sang Guard, I'll definitely be using them regularly because I like their fluff and they look very awesome with Death Masks. Add a Banner and a Priest and they'll dish out the pain too! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/201887-how-are-sanguinary-guard/#findComment-2405484 Share on other sites
Plague Angel
I do need another Sanguard kit. I only built 2 Sanguard models. ;) Then I made a captain, Dante, and a model for my own chapter master. Lots of bits left over, though! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/201887-how-are-sanguinary-guard/#findComment-2405589 Share on other sites
Brother_Dan'l
I love 'em. But I've got Dante so using them as an additional Troop unit is what makes them great. With Dante, a Sanguinary Priest and the Chapter Banner (basically gets paid for by not buying Death Masks) these guys are magic. And a nice way around their limited numbers is to surround them with a couple of 10 man RAS. The Priest and Banner are in range of both RAS and the marines provide a moving screen for the SG unit. It also leaves the SG free to act as a counter charge or attack unit since the enemy can't assault the Sanguinary Guard without going thru the RAS first. And with the Priest and Banner in range that takes a lot of work to do. Exterminatus Machine
If I ever wanted to make batman for 40k...the Sanguinary Guard box made it possible... BLACK BLΠFLY
I think they are a great unit but unfortunately they don't work well with my list, otherwise I would definitely run a squad. To make them really rock hard they do best when you join both a Chaplain & Sanguinary Priest. Unfortunately then they are too big to fit in a Stormraven... Otherwise I'd definitely use them. 0b :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/201887-how-are-sanguinary-guard/#findComment-2405725 Share on other sites
Loki73
I took 2500 points of them to Ard Boys and won the tournament. I tabled all but one opponent. I picked them up for a fun fluffy army. Who knew they would do so well. They are tricky but once they are dialed in they are pretty nasty. Plus, some people are so tooled up for mech these days they cant possibly fathom playing a fun list outta the models they like. Most players: "Hows that Sanguinary army workin out for you?" Me: "Pretty darn good wanna game!?" Some people just need to get off the netz and make and play an army for fluff and modeling purposes. /rant off Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/201887-how-are-sanguinary-guard/#findComment-2405930 Share on other sites
