Grey Wolves Terminator squad

Since my attempts at a painting log on Warseer have been met with stony silence (550 views at last check, 0 replies) i figured i'd post my current works in progress here where people actually have an interest in Space Marines.

 

This particular project started from reading the latest Space Wolves codex. I've never been that fond of the Puppies, their fluff has always been a bit too unsubtle for my tastes and the latest book is no exception. However i do love the Space Wolf mini's and paint scheme. Which left me in somewhat of a quandry - do i collect some puppies even though i dislike their fluff? or do i collect something else instead?.

 

Well i went for a compromise. I decided to create my own chapter, with similar iconography to the Wolves but with completely different fluff. And so i ended up with the Grey Wolves. They aren't a lost company, nor a successor chapter. They just happen to share certain characteristics when it comes to armour design and choice of species to emulate.

 

At present i only have a single box of Wolf Guard terminators, being on a tight budget and with no easy access to a Games Workshop stockist limits the speed in which i can assemble an army. That combined with the 2500 points worth of Blood Angels i've got awaiting a repaint and my never ending Grey Knights means that it'll be a while before they see a tabletop.

The images above show the only completed model so far, just to give an idea of the iconography i've gone for. As i've said they are very much inspired by the Space Wolves, i've just refrained from using some of the more specific Space Wolve-y designs. Their right shoulder pad for example displays the chapters symbol, a wolf rampant, rather than their company which is instead displayed as a stripe bisecting their helmets.

 

I've also attached a few shots of the conversion i'm working on to serve as a counts as Logan Grimnar. My apologies for the poor quality of the photos, still not quite got the hang of my new camera.

Comments and criticisms would be appreciated, so that i can improve on the paint job as i progress with the rest of the squad/army.

The paint job on the terminator is great, the blue is good, but the red needs to be deeper. Cant wait to see a whole unit.

 

And that Grimnar is a nice conversion with lots of movement.

i think the red on the fist looks ok, not too sure about the orange storm bolter though, it seems a bit off. unless that was what abaddons chosen was on about. nice tones for the wolfen crux terminatus though! keep up the good work
