Down Goes Frazier...

Had a brawl with BA today with a much more experienced player. Results were the same however...

 

2000 pts, Capture & Control, Pitched Battle

BA wins roll off and elects to set up and go first (good call on his part)

 

BA Army:

 

Dante

10-man Assault Squad w/ 2 meltaguns

Sanguinary Priest w/ Jump Pack

(all deep striking as a unit)

 

Mephiston

 

Furioso Dread w/ Grapple Gun

 

2 x 10-man Assault Squads each w/ 2 meltaguns

2 x Sanguinary Priests w/ Jump Packs

 

5 x TH/SS Terminators

mounted in Land Raider w/ multi-melta

BA Turn 1: He nukes one Vindicator w/ a single lascannon shot from his Land Raider. Advances towards me with his LR, Dreadnought hiding Mephiston, Landspeeder, and his 2 Assault Squads

 

SW Turn 1: I fail to hit w/ my Redeemer's multi-melta on his LR. My Vindicator misses a bunched up pack of his LR, Dread, and Mephiston...big surprise... I advance with everything except my Razorback that will sit on my objective the whole game w/ the GHs inside until turn 4.

 

BA Turn 2: Mephiston fails his wings w/ double 6's, ha ha. His landspeeder gets imobilized due to Tempests Wrath, but all 10 of his nearby assault marines pass their dangerous terrain test. Dante arrives on my right flank and his squad destroys my nearby Rhino. His Terminators charge my last Vindicator and destroy it.

 

SW Turn 2: GHs on my right flank shoot and assault Dante and his squad. Wolf Banner saves the day and the Wolf Guard insta-kills Dante! GHs in the middle charge and destroy the Terminators before they can strike back (aided by the Redeemers assault cannon, a twinlinked las, and 2 meltagun shots from the squad. The GHs from the Land Raider immobilize the Furioso. And then down goes Frazier! The Wolf Lord and his wolves charge and kill Mephiston, who failed to get thru my Lord's stormshield!!!

 

BA Turn 3: SW's right flank folds completely when a second assault squad arrives and kills the remaining GHs responsible for Dante's death. His last assault squad shoots and charges the Wolf Lord, who promptly stomps five of them but takes 2 wounds himself and loses his remaining wolves.

 

SW Turn 3: Scouts still don't arrive. GH's who killed the terminators reboard their Rhino and await the attack from the two assault squads on my right. GH's from the Redeemer charge the assault squad in combat with my Thunderlord. Together they eliminate the squad and run the Sanguinary Priest off the board.

 

BA Turn 4: His landed Landspeeder nukes my Redeemer. The lead assault squad on my right wrecks my Rhino but they aren't in range of my GH's jumping out of the back. His Land Raider was shaken by a multi-melta shot from the last turn.

 

SW Turn 4: Scouts finally arrive and I bring them in from my own board edge. They shoot down several of Dante's already reduced assault squad, then kill the remainder in assault. The GH's from my Redeemer close in on his objective. The shot up GH's and the GH's from my razorback combine to shoot and assault his last full assault squad, eliminating it.

 

BA Turn 5: He wiffs while trying to shoot down my Thunderlord.

 

SW Turn 5: I wiff while trying to shoot his Land Raider. I seize both objectives.

 

Wolves victorious!!!

 

Lessons Learned: Mephiston can't stand up to power weapons, so either bring an HQ of equal power and points cost, or else hope that a GH pack can hurt him with a power fist, power weapon, and MoTW. Also, Dante doesn't have eternal warrior for some reason, so power fists win the day there as well. BA's are nasty when they get the charge. Furious Charge and Feel no Pain from the Sanguinary Priests are devastating, but expensive. As a result, the BA army lacked firepower and numbers, both of which I had in abundance. Also, the BA player chose not to have power fists or weapons in his assault squads. This might work well against regular SM or IG in transports, but not against SW, Black Templars, or Chaos Marines.

Well done brother...but as you said,the BA player made some serious mistakes in not having power weapons in his assault squads. The Dread was probably the biggest threat to you out there tbh. It has a nasty tendency to rip apart any squad it assaults lol. And yeah...Mephiston is suprisingly squishy when you bring power weapons to the party...and enough troops to endure his initial attack lol. Regardless...very well done.
