Index Astartes: Iron Skulls

Recommended Posts

This is what i have started to come up with for my chapter. Any C&C is welcomed and encouraged. So please leave something when you visit.

Origins

WIP

Home World

WIP

Combat Doctrine

The Iron Skulls Chapter forgoes the use of larger vehicles like Land Raiders and Predators. Instead the Chapter will use Dreadnoughts and Devastators for fire support roles. The use of larger vehicles will be allowed if terrain is large enough. The Chapter will make extensive use of Drop Pods and Thunder Hawk insertions. The Reason for all of this is due to the urbanized and ship boarding environment the Chapter see most. (that's what i got so far. i have a story i'm working on about a company assaulting a rebel world showcasing this tactics.)

Recruitment and Initial Training

Chaplains do the recruiting for the Chapter. They also induct the Aspirants into the Chapter Cult and give the basic forms of training in marksmanship, weapons, and hand to hand combat. When the Aspirant has master the basic training he is then placed in a Scout Squad for Combat training.

Organization

The Chapter follows the Codex.

Chapter Cult

I was thinking of maybe using a form of ancestor worship. The souls the the ones before give guidance to the one here now. or something like that. Still WIP.

Gene-Seed

Sill haven't decided on who is the Primarch of the Chapter. I'm thinking Dorn (IF) but maybe even Gillman (ultraM).

Things i have thought about and fleshed out

Okay this is the part of the stuff i came up with that is good background fluff

Marine Armor

Each set of Power Armor is crafted for each individual aspirant that becomes a a full Marine Brother. During the course of there service the armor becomes more ornate with campaign badges, honors, awards, and their own heraldry. When the Marine succumbs to grievous wounds and passes on, the armor is place with in the Hall of Heroes (might change the name) and the Marine is placed inside the Catacombs under the fortress-monastery.

Tactical Dreadnought Armor

When a Brother-Marine becomes able to join the First Company, he is granted a new set of Terminator Armor. The Marine have the option of either keeping his old Power Armor or incorporating it into his Terminator Armor. If he keeps the Power Armor the Terminator Armor will be newly crafted and all heraldry on the Power Armor will be transferd to the Terminator armor. If he uses it in the Terminator armor the parts used will be replaced with new parts.

Dreadnought Armor

When a Brother-Marine suffers serious wounds but does not die he is placed in dreadnought armor. The Brother-Marines original Power Armor will be placed in an alcove behind the resting place of the Dreadnought. All heraldry from the Power Armor of the Marine is placed on the Dreadnought Armor. When the Brother-Marine finally embraces death, all the new Heraldry he has gained since his interment will be placed on his old Power Armor. The Power Armor will then be placed in the Hall of Heroes.

Well that what i got so far please let me know what you guys think.

Edit: Forgot this.

Well, so far it looks like a pretty standard Chapter. I like the color scheme, it's striking yet simple.

I'm not sure if you've read the Guide to DIYing, but in case you haven't, it's the perfect source for information and advice on writing your Index Astartes.

I'm also unsure as to whether you will continue to write in teh future tense. It's a little unsettling.

I find it interesting that your Chapter forgoes larger vehicles. I'm guessing that their homeworld is also urban? It would explain their tactics. Why would they operate on mostly urban worlds? Are they defending a particular system?

I'm not sure I quite understand the Terminator Armor bit. If they choose not to use it, all their stuff is transferred to it anyway?

Also, I'm pretty sure that the majority of dead Marines don't get a Dreadnought. It's reserved for the Best of the Best.

Well, it seems like you'll have a good Chapter up and running here with a bit of revision! Hope my comments help a bit.

I have many times and still going over it.

Yes the Chapter homworld is also urban(funny you figured it out) and they are stationed to protect an area of space but i have yet to figure out where.

Ill have to fix that up a bit. i just read it out loud and it doesn't make sense to me either.

Ill work on this more.
