Daughters of Malice

How's this for a DIY Order?

I have a Sisters of Battle army. Much to my shame, I've never decided on a proper paint scheme for them - so they sit, unpainted and unplayed...

A while back I toyed with the idea of a Sons of Malice army. I painted a few test figures and decided it was beyond my skill. I couldn't get the separation line to look good on the relatively open surfaces of a Space Marine.

While grouching a recent disaster that has befallen my Death Guard - a plague of bad primer - I dragged out the Sisters, looking for inspiration.

Why not paint them like the Sons of Malice? By using red skirts and sleeves I can avoid painting that dreaded split-line, except on their helmets and backpacks. I can do the quartered white-and-black paint scheme that I want to try. And the sheer heresy of it will drive GW fluff fans to distraction...

So, here's what I'm thinking...

How does it look?

Hey Cessna,

Great idea! I am a huge fan of the Sons on Malice and have some great ideas for modeling some sweet Golden Daemon entries. I'll be working on them over the next two years. I say go for it. Renegade all the way! I can see a very sweet story running them with a fallen inquisitor hating the chaos gods and realizing that the only way to keep everything in order it to keep chaos as it was meant to be. Entirely random.

Anyway, kudos man!

Can't wait to see some models.

That's sort of what I was thinking. I was thinking of them as being with a radical Inquisitor (or Cannoness) - who was so zealous in his/her pursuit of Chaos that he went off the rails himself...

An awesome color scheme indeed! But do you know what I first thought when I saw it? The card folk from Alice in Wonderland! Slap on some hearts, spades, clovers and the likes, and you've got yourself a fantastic army with lots of conversion and freehand potential! :D

You know, I like this idea.

Each squad is a "Suit." Hearts, Spades, etc. (Hell, the French did it with tanks in WWI.)

It would be tough to keep it subtle, but I think I could pull it off. Just a small insignia on each would be enough, maybe on the corners of their skirts.

Forget subtle, I'd go all out :P ! Maybe make the symbols the size of their tabard (and keep it half on half off for additional style points). Regular sisters would have red robes with white symbols, Celestians would have white robes with red symbols. For your Rhino's you could paint the top hatch as a playing card, with the card being the Rhino number (Three of Hearts: Rhino nr.3, carries the 'Hearts' squad. Has 3 hearts painted on like on a playing card, so that you can identify it from both the front or the back). Aces could be reserved for HQ, Jokers for stormtroopers ;)
