WIP BA Dread. **Finished, 5-24-2010**

Recommended Posts

Hello again everyone, been a while since I've posted anything. I was finally able to get my hands on the new BA codex and I fell in love with the Flak Cannon. I don't know how well it holds up in game but I've always been one to put together fluffy or fun models and I rarely actually play anymore. Maybe I haven't been looking hard enough but I haven't really seen any of them around. So anyways, I set to work on an old Dread that was equiped with lascannons and a missile launcher. I wanted to use the base of the launcher for the flak cannon which meant making the lascannon arm into the cc weapon. So with nothing more than a little green stuff and various left over scraps from other vehicle kits I set to work.

I think the cc arm is a little bit big and almost too chaos-y but I'm going to add some purity seals and I've got a combat shield that I'm going to turn into a heraldry shield as well. Hopefully that ends up looking OK. I would like to something more dynamic with the legs but I'm running out of suitable bits and greenstuff so I don't think I'm up to that challenge at this point.

There is still plenty to do. The greenstuff is drying right now. I'll post some more as I go, cc is always welcome. Cheers!

Heck I think it came out damn good my friend! I like the way you converted the exhausts on the ML, very nice touch.

The arm is good, the fingers might be a little clonky but mainly I think they just need to be evened out ( getting rid of the highs and lows ) then it ought to be ace ;)

Cheers!

Thanks for the comments. I was kind of playing around with the fingers and going for something a little bit different, but I agree it might look better if all four were the same instead of two pairs the way it is now. I couldn't bear to file down the ml ports even though as I understand it the casing from the cannon shells is also part of the flak when it actually fires. Gotta have heat vents though, I figure.

Small update. I've finished the modeling phase and started on to the painting. I got the cc arm based and and started working on the red parts of the main body because I wasn't quite ready to stop yet. I kinda messed up a bit of the base coat on the Frag Cannon arm and had to clean it off so nothing new there. (also I feel silly for calling it a flak cannon in my first post, I guess it reminded me too much of unreal)

Not the best picture, even brightened up a bit. Camera is a turd.

Another picture today. Nothing special just a shot of the cc arm with a little paint on it. Should get it finished sometime this week.

Thanks for the compliment! In the initial stages of the kit bashing I had something entirely different going on for it and I ended up getting stuck until I came up with this idea. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.

And now for the update. I found myself more motivated than usual so I set to work with the paints and a while later here I am, dread all but finished. I haven't decided on a name yet so the shield and sarcophagus are blank for now. Not exactly up to par with a lot of the you guys, but I have grown to love my method for red. It feels very gritty and moody to me. The red is over all a little bit darker than the pictures show. Almost Flesh Tearers dark. Ive tried different lighting, flash, no flash, etc. I ought to try a light box I think.
