Panzerkopf
I've always pronounced it as "are-bites" like the German word for "work" but that can't be right. Does anyone know? Sorry for the dumb question but it's been bugging me. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202055-how-do-you-pronounce-arbites/ Share on other sites

Oiad
Baal rhymes with Hale etc. See this page. Second one down though the third one has similar origin and could be permisable. I've known people to use both.  The name was also used in naming one of the arch-daemons in Diablo II. They preferred to use the second version too as shown in the intro to the expansion pack, based on the daemon. So have you been getting into plenty of rants with other gamers about these pronounciations then? :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202055-how-do-you-pronounce-arbites/#findComment-2409005 Share on other sites

It's the one you'll see in almost every country that speaks a latin-based language. The second is the "englishized" pronunciation, I think. But it's not latin anyway, so to be sure, ask a jew ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202055-how-do-you-pronounce-arbites/#findComment-2409070 Share on other sites

But it's not latin anyway, so to be sure, ask a jew ;)  Yes, the second I'm guessing is most likely a germanic / anglo saxon basterdisation of the pronounciation, as with Arbiter. Surely enough, if the Imperium use Latin as it's primary language then they'll pronounce it in the original, Latin manner as most of you have shown preference to.  If you're speaking in English then the versions I've noted (from the online sources) would be the more inclined way of pronouncing it in an English conversation. After all, I don't go around pronouncing Spain 'España' in conversations. Still, it shouldn't matter too much, I don't care to criticise people over such semantics. The kinda people who do care have lost touch with both the bigger things in life or the fact that language is never static. It's why I'm interested to know if Panzerkopf has been told otherwise by other gamers recently and is looking for substantial proof. It's pretty petty to get into arguments about such stuff, no?
