Captain Aphael - My take on him

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have posted a few pictures before to a very kind (and overgenerous) reception. Here is my model for Captain Aphael, for which I have been using the rules for Astorath and doing just fine.

I 'converted' his heraldry on his shoulder pad and the rest is mostly sang guard and DC box bits. He is supposedly wielding a chapter relic (from which most of the effects are supposedly derived), an idea I shamelessly stole from the Spear of Telesto in the books. His company are known as 'the blooded', which could mean anything. I have taken it to mean that for some reason his company slightly more likely to be overcome by the red thirst; an example from the story in the current codex serves well. The chaplain abilities are hard to justify, maybe his armour inspires devotion or something like that (has a shard of Sanguinius' armour in it).

Enough rambling, here are the pics.

As you can see, he's just about to run his opponent through with his 'relic blade' (especially with re-rolls to hit and re-roll of successful invulnerable saves).

Many thanks for looking,

Kind regards,

GotR

I like the concept very much but have some suggestions for areas you could improve. As others have said, the head just doesn't look right and so a head swap could be a simple and effective fix for that. The spear could do with losing the rune on the base of the spearhead, and if posible an arm with a bent elbow would add more dynamicism to the 'javelin' style pose. (as well as him holding the shaft a bit nearer to the head) A brighter gold would also make him contrast better. Very good effort so far though.

I think all you really need is to smooth out the paint a little and brighten up the gold, then shave off the Eldar rune and put a bit of a bend in that arm. I think the face looks sort of dry-brushed but the head works quite well.

On the whole a very nice conversion.
