Blood angel named characters and.... Helmets?

I like having an all helmeted force, it makes sense for survivability in combat for space marine heroes and common Joes alike. But some, if not most, of the characters lack helmets.

What would be a good helmet suggestion for the unhelmeted characters like Astorath, Mephiston and Corbulo?

Corbs doesn't need to be a sanguinary priest blister model. Just a PA dude with a special chainsword, a special cup n' a pistola. Any helmet will do. (Despite the artwork on page 49 of C:BA.)

Meat helmets?

No, doctor evil. Not meat helmets.

The Mephiston model being metal and his cowling/hood around the head makes a tricky proposition of helmeting him. I'd be frickin leery of doing such a thing. Carving metal out of a crowded little recess like that looks like a nightmare to me. One slip and your awl/pick/chisel will damage the rest. *shudder*

As for Astorath, unless you're kit-bashing one, I think one ust paints the face on the metal model as if it's a unique death mask (helmet) as schreier above me stated.

I to am going for a all helmeted force, unless of course its somthing like the terminator libby or mephy. For astorath I used a chaos champ head just cut the horns off, some careful cutting. See my army wip. As for Corbulo, I'm currently working on him. I used the SM commander helmet from the box set and cut the helmet mounted light off a apoth model and stuck it on. Pictures of him will be up soon for anyone whos intrested.

I haven't seen Astorath in person yet as my local stockist has them still on backorder :P .

I am intending on cobbling up some named characters with the new Blood Angel kits + various other bits. Excellent work Eberious I like your stuff and I may have to try something similar for my Astorath.

Thanks for the help everyone :).

Yeah... you have to look closely... but Asteroth is wearing a Death Mask... It's just made to look like an actual face...

The thing about Libarians is that they wear psychic hoods so either you turn it into an actual hood like how the dark angels are...

or you have to build a very baroque helmet with the hood...

Corbulo is basically a Standard Sanguiary preist with a large cup... so either do a head-swap or a kit-bash and you should be ok

I am also building a fully helemted force. I have made a Tycho using Sang Guard bits, and used one of the Sang Guard helmets, with the halo bit removed. I intened to kit bash a mephiston using Sang Guard and DA vets bits, and I think I will use a DA vets "crusader" helmet with the hood on for him. Ill also do a kitbash astorath and his head will likely either be a death mask from the Sang Guard box, or a suitably ornate or skull like helmet if I find any that particularly jump out at me. I'll also make a corbulo kit bash with command squad apothecary bits, DC and or Sang guard bits and likely either a DC helmet or a crusader helm of some sort as I am a really big fan of them.

What about Astorath's model size, is he like the sanguinor and Dante where he is smaller than the plastic models? That would be another reason for me to bash him up from plastics.

I may have to look at some of the DA vet bits for some of the options now, that seems like a pretty good idea for Mephiston :).

On a related note for helmets, I just made my Dante conversion from the sanguinary guard box. The regular Death masks just didn't quite work for me as Dante wouldn't be unique if a Sanguinary Guard squad with death masks were included. Also the original model has a screaming death mask, so I made one that looks like it may work, what do you people think?

as for astorath, The main reason why i think he wears a death mask is that one of the two minor illustrations that break up the text shows a death mask quite similar to astorath's face. that, coupled with the unusual way the cables and his "face" are connected, makes me think it must be a death mask...

PS< I quite like that dante head, good job!

Astorath doesn't even have Death Mask's rules, so no go for me.

EDIT: I remember a Fallen Dark Angels Character in Blood Quest that has the same tubes as Astorath.

Based on the GW paint job, I dunno. The way they paint him is with black hair and the BA geneseed makes them all blonde, so it may be a mask.

Where does it say that?

Even though in the artwork of Astorath doesn't have black hair,

there are other pictures of Blood Angels with darker hair.

I assume that you are familiar with Leonatos? ;)

He doesnt look smaller... least to my eyes.

When he gets "released" I might have to pick him up then, if just for the cool wings :).

Astorath is wearing a mask not too dissimilar to a Death Mask

I don't know...

It's not the first time that we've seen Characters with tubes and knobs sticking out of their faces.

That's one thing that made me not question it was his face and not a mask, that and his "hair", I never seen a helmet with flowing hair before so thought head not helmet.

PS< I quite like that dante head, good job!

Thanks! I was pleased how it came out being so easy a conversion.

Very cool!

How did you do the wings?

Just like igotsmeakabob!! says, I stole them from The Sanguinor
