Bad dice

After a full day of flames of war and a battletech campaigne game i was in the mood for a little 40K our resident blood angel fanatic was just finishing up a game against crimson fists so i got him on the rebound.

 

Game-

.storm raven gunship(home-made)

.furiosos librarian dread

.astorath

.sanguinary guard squad with banner and powerfists

.2 sanguinary priests

.3 full assault squads with dual melta and power fist love.

.5 vanguard claw squad.

.MOTF full harness/PW

.GK grand master kitted out with gear and a psycannon

.tac marine squad-fist/flamer/missile

.scout squad-mixed weapons, fist and melta bomb

.5 man assault marine squad PW/SS and melta bombs

.3 venerable hellfire dreads

.3 ironclad dreads

.land speeder typhoon

.land speeder tornado(stand in by my old master of teh RW model)

He won the roll off and made me deploy first

So i kept nearly everything in reserve save the HQs, TAC marines and shooty dreads.

 

 

Things went south for him from the start. with astorath in his army he gets the red thirst(fearless+furious charge) for all his units save his characters on a 1-3. so a 50% chance........out of 6 units he only got it 1 time.

 

 

I made my reserves and brout in the assault marines, scouts(outflanking) typhoon and an ironclad turn 2.

 

So like a good blood angel he tried to decend on top of me. it mostly worked. he made every reserve roll save the vanguards.

 

His gunship went all out to close the range. his assaults dropped but one mishapped and ended up back in his deployment zone. it just happened to be the one that had red thirst.

 

 

His jump squads wisely tried to nuetralise my dreads. a combi and 2 meltas failed to even hit the ironclad on my left flank and the 2 that hit on my rigfht only managed to score a weapon destroyed result on a venerable.

 

It now went to my turn 3

 

I got a second ironclad in who went to work shoring up my right flank with the assault marines in my force. my scouts castled up in a building and the second ironcald went to care for the BAs that had shot at him.

 

The rest of my force commenced to unload on the storm raven, but my kraks and las were just bouncing off the darn thing. Then something happened. the GKGM decided to give it a go with his psycannon. i was amazed he managed to glance it. the raven failed it's save......and i got another glance 6 immobilising it and thus killing it since it was going so fast.

 

One dedicated GK player i game with always says "grey knights do amazing things" i am starting to believe him.

 

 

Over the course of the next few turns it goes from bad to worse for the BA player. his SG with astorath finally manage to drop a venerabel dread only to get tied up with 2 ironclads tat had been battling his asasult squad. meanwhile his vanguard came in with an eye to snuffing my GKGM. but they did not get furious charge so he clocked 4 of the 6 of them in one fell swing of his nemesis blade before they could act. only taking one wound in return before the tac marines finsihed them off.

 

His assault squad that had bottled up my right flank broke and ran only to be run down and engaged again by my jump marines until they were destroyed.

 

He was doing damage to my ironclads taking all but 1 weapon off one as well as immobilising both of them. unfortunately ne never got cvlear before my assault squad and MOTF joined in the fight. i had been busy shooting his remaining assault marines as they made the long trek across the table. reducing them to a sarg with a powerfist . i also managed to immobilise his dread and blow off it's arms.

 

The game ended on turn 7 with not a blood angel left to contest the field.

 

I had taken some damage to my dreads and a wound on my GM, but my only actually losses were a venerable dread, a land speeder, 1 tactical marine and 1 assault marine.

One of the most one sided battles i have fought in a very long time. mostly due to bad dice rolls-like 9 PF attacks in CC hitting on 4+ and only hittiing 1 or 2 times. each combat phase for his BAs......

Alway better to see a battle report useing photos :D Just look so much cooler.

 

How do you find the Dreadnought heavy list?? I try a 5x Dread in pod list myself was a little hit or miss more due to the object mission (two tactical squads will do that after all :D ). Just wanted to find how other find Dreadnought heavy armies.

I love my dread heavy army, wish i could take them as troops and HQs to do a complete dread force.

 

On the matter of performance. i built this list with theme in mind over performance. certainly in older editions of the game where just about anything could score it would work much better, however through judicious use of tactics i have managed to be very successful with the army. suprising me many times with victories when things started out looking dire.
