Quannum
Hi all, Wanted a consensus on this little conundrum I'm having. I'm starting to put together my very first SW list and really love the fluff behind our staple, the Grey Hunters. I'm envisioning each pack of 8 being led by a Wolf Guard in Terminator Armour. This obviously put a limit on the transports available to me. My question is as follows: Though I can't buy my Grey Hunters a Land Raider as a DEDICATED transport, can I get round this by buying a Land Raider Redeemer using up a Heavy Support slot, then load them into that prior to battle? Thanks for the help! Q Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202312-new-sw-pup-needs-transport-advice/ Share on other sites
Marmande
Yes. Only when you have a dedicated transport do you have to wait a turn if the model was purchased for a different squad. Quannum
Wait, I'm not sure I understand your answer... Would I have to deploy the Grey Hunter squad, and the Land Raider seperately and then load them into in the first turn? wolf2.3
No, what Marmande means is that you can load the Grey Hunters into the LR before the start of the game. However his other exaple means that if you have Squad X and buy a transport for them and choose instead to load squad Y into the transport, squad Y will need to wait a turn at the start of the game. Hope this helps ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202312-new-sw-pup-needs-transport-advice/#findComment-2410599 Share on other sites

Duke Corwin
As Requiem said buying multiple land raiders to transport GH packs is not cost effective. You might consider using wolf guard in power armor as leaders and load up in Rhinos. Of course you could still make one pack of 8 with WG in TDA loaded in the Land Raider (better yet make a full pack of 10 with bonus special weapon and add a WG in TDA and get a Land Raider Redeemer which holds 12). This way you still have heavy slots for other things like long fangs or vindicators. Also, you might consider a wolf guard pack in a dedicated land raider (or LR variant) as it won't use a heavy slot. A LR Crusader can hold either 8 terminators or 5 terminators and 6 power armor WGs or any other combination that totals "16". Yes But it requires using a Crusader which is pretty much just 6 storm bolters. I have found that the basic Land raider for anti tank punch and the Redeemer for sheer freaking awesomeness are the better choices. Logan230
I like using the LRC for 15 Blood Claws and a Priest, but to each his own. Edit: can't count Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202312-new-sw-pup-needs-transport-advice/#findComment-2410662 Share on other sites

Edit: can't count That would probably be the reason I don't like the crusader..I dont run with Blood Claws. Duke Corwin
Put a mult- melta on a crusader and you have 6 hurricane bolters (potential 12 shots with re-rolls) a twin linked auto cannon (4 shots, rending and re-rolls) and the multi-melta. Even better you can move and still fire ALL of them due to the hurricanes being defensive and you also get power of the machine spirit. In fact you can even add a storm bolter for 2 more shots. Now add in a unit of wolf guard terminators (or mixed termies and power armor guard) led by say a wolf priest or other HQ character and you have an awesome weapon system (or if you prefer 15 blood claws and a wolf priest though then the crusader will use up a heavy slot). Fixed that for you. If it had a 4 shot rending TWL Auto-Cannon, there would be no reason NOT to take a Crusader. While I typically hold off on putting everything valuable in a LR, people do see LR's as a threat and will try to drop it fast. Play off that and use it against your opponent to carve them up. But it is fun when a LR disgorges the likes of Ragnar, a squad of TDA WG's, or 15 BC's into your enemy's face. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202312-new-sw-pup-needs-transport-advice/#findComment-2411227 Share on other sites
