Random Works In Progess

Recommended Posts

Well, it's been a while since I've posted anything here, but I've been inspired by the Jetbike talk around.

The biker will be painted as a renegade Ultramarine (I'll post a link of the paint scheme)

It needs the stabilizer wings yet, and the exhaust vents sculpted. That said, this is pretty far along.

He will be painted like this:

Second, I have my commander. He's a count-as renegade lord. I kept his armor as spartan as I could to reflect that he's recently turned renegade.

Comments and criticisms are welcome :)

Well. I finished up the conversion work on the bike. I added wings, and vents on the back end of it.

Then I hit it with some primer and flew at it with paints.

I think I am going to have to black-line around the Ultra-Marine emblem on both sides of the fender, and I am not too sure about the checkerboard on the wing edges. If I do the same thing on the next bike, I'll have to do some tweaks.

That said, no one comes here to read a story, they come here for photos. So here goes.

Feel free to comment and critique as you will. The freehand isn't done yet, as I have to put red arrows on the bike in select places (it is a renegade biker after all).

First off, someone asked about getting a few more shots of my bionic leg.

Now back to the bike. I am completely dissatisfied with the metalics. This is especially true of the bolter and the flamer. I think I am going to swing by the local hobby shop tomorrow and pick up a brownish wash to make the metal look a little bit better. I also have to touch up the scorch effect on the flamer.

After I do that, I'll hit all the buttons (the handlebars/gauges), and the accessory pouch on the cloth thingy. Once all of that is complete, I can begin work on the rider.

I have decided to ditch the beaky helmet, and instead go for a chaos helm. The beaky one will get a horse-hair brush for the sergeant of the squadron who will likely be started just as I finish up this toy.

Once the rider is in place, the whole thing will get highlights, and it will be set up with the rest of the "army" lol.

And yeah, I'm going to be treating these as just standard bikers. I have tossed the flamer in the cowling instead of in the riders hand (where it ought to be) because there is something about bikers with swords that I find aesthetically appealing.

The sergeant bike will have a different intake, and a more elaborate engine. The cowling on the bike may only have the one bolter though.

Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement. I realize that it's a somewhat poor shot, but I'd like to get some feedback on the gauges I painted up.

If anyone wants to know the procedure i followed for my bionic leg, gimme a shout. I am extremely proud of how it turned out. Especially because the idea started after the leg got knicked by a dremel while i was working on something else ;)

Well, rather than starting a new topic on my random works in progress (specifically my jetbikes) I've brought this one back. Hopefully, as I am adding content, this does not draw the attention of the =][= melta gun.

Anyway. I've still not finished the rider for the other bike, but that hasn't stopped me from beginning work on the next one.

Without further ado, I present the sarge's WIP jet-bike.

I have to do some gap filling (specifically around the grille and the wings, as well as modifying the seat). I am particularly proud of the engine I've built for this one. I think it's a marked improvement to the prototype.

I would really appreciate any comments or criticisms :)

The new bike looks even better than the first. The new engine intake and exhaust looks fantastic. I would suggest covering all traces of the front suspension parts to make the body look all one piece. I would also cover the old exhaust ports with putty or plasticard. Brilliant use of the chaos parts on the front intake, I keep looking at it and thinking it looks like the perfect conversion idea. Keep up the good work.

Nan dae tahk, de nahn dae tekk, de rue de rue... I mean...

Treadromancy!

Once more I find myself raising this thread from the dead. Once more it's becoming more bloated with pictures!

First up, my WIP bike still very much WIP. I have decided I really like horse-hair brushes on the helmets. I have used the Ultramarine shoulder from the commander box. His backpack is also from the commander box. He'll also get a small trophy rack on his backpack.

But that's not what i am super excited about.

Some time ago, I started working on my version of a renegade Calgar. An imposter, if you will. This is my concept model. At this stage, I am still willing to make modifications.

I am thinking of putting a horse hair brush on him as well, but i fear it may make his armor look too busy.

What does everyone think? With or without the horse-hair brush? Have I overlooked anything terribly important?

I like the Calgar pose and the overall theme, though i will say if the bolt pistols on his claws have the ammo feed (wire piping) and the ammo clip its a little confusing, id either remove one or the other (unless the wiring is of course meant to be something else like a cooling pipe or something). Personally id probaly make the pistols a bit chunkier, though that could be just the fact im use to seeing calgar in terminator armour looking very tank-like ^_^

Liking the look of your Jetbikes brother. The sarge's one looks like it's coming along nicely and the brushwork on the painted one looks fantastic, particulaly the freehand details. Your counts as Calgar is pretty impressive too. Any plans for a bareheaded option for him or is his helmet forever sealed incase anyone guesses he's not the real Calgar?

ammo feeds are rather simple.

Stack plasticard of a large rectangle followed by an overlapping smaller rectangle onto the next large rectangle. Alternatively you can do a large rectangle followed by a rod... It would look something like this.. [ ]||[ ]||[ ]

I actually gave that some consideration. My concern was how to get it to curve without driving myself up a wall. That, and the nearest source of plastic card is a short 1.5 hour drive to a neighboring city (which I've not been able to do recently).

However, because the renegades aren't super chaosy I intend to build items that can be traded in and out of the list and switch from Chaos Space Marines to Space Marines. Basically, it means i am going to try my hand at making a jet-attack-bike. I'll use the ammo feeder idea on it so solve the logistics of having to reload an under-slung heavy-bolter on a jetbike.

I almost think that the Calgar needs a bare head..... Like the one form the Chaos Lord box set or the terminators the one with the great looking snarl.

Doesn't have to be plastic.

Could be thick card board (balsa/basswood too) and brass rod . Cardboard you would need to coat with a slightly watered layer of pva (white) glue so it has a smooth metallic surface.

Make a form out of thick board or card, glue it to a base so that it holds the curve and build on top of it (simple jig.) If you use Super glue, use an accelerant to tack it together then come back with a plastic glue or thin super glue to fill in gaps and let that cure naturally.
