750 points

For a doubles competition, with my partner playing blood angels (the specifics of his list are unknown to me, we're not the most organized bunch) we both get 750 points each, at a guress he'll either spam assault marines a chaplin and a sanguinary preist, or take fast vehicles.

Like idiots, we waited to the last second to submit lists, so its to late to tweek mine, but I'm curious to see opinions on it anyway.

HQ

Wolf Lord with frost blade, Belt of Russ, runic armour, wolf tooth necklace and meltabombs

ELITES

Lone Wolf with terminator armour, wolf claws and meltabombs

TROOPS

10 Grey Hunters with flamer, meltagun, mark of the wulfen and power weapon

10 Grey Hunters with flamer, plasma gun, mark of the wulfen and power weapon

HEAVY SUPPORT

5 Long Fangs with heavy bolter, plasma cannon, missile launcher and lascannon

I considered taking a battle leader with similar loadout and a jump pack instead, but the only way to give him an invulnerable is with a storm sheild, which brings him up to the same cost as a lord anyway, and limits him to his basic three attacks, so I went with the lord, less manuverable, but packs much more of a punch, and my partner should be able to cover the quick aspect for the both of us.

I like it, compact but volatile. I hope you are giving the Mark of the Wulfen to someone other than those with the special weapons.

My only issue is that (and this is from experience) taking one of everything for your long fangs is never a good idea; they are to diverse and so struggle to take down specific things when combined, for instance, if you have to take down a land raider with your guys, your lascannon is the only one capable, but is will be useless against a horde seeing as it will only take down one guy a turn.

I personally would have gone for 2 Missile Launcher and 2 Lascannons (making the points by either dropping a Mark of the Wulfen or the Lone Wolf's TDA). That way, you can take out most vehicles (Lascannons and Krak Missiles), any heavy troops (Lascannons and Krak Missiles) and any light infantry (Frag Missiles).

Another thing I would have done (and yes, I know I am practically re-writing the list and hence rendering my first comment hollow, but this is just helpful advice of my opinion) is given the Grey Hunters Wolf Standards and replaced the Lone Wolf with 5 fenrisian wolves, there are then more wounds and more attacks and your Wulfen will benefit from the standard for a turn.

I'd have went for Speeder with MM/HF instead of Lone Wolf, but it's just me. And I'd any time swap either Mark or PW on the GH for a Wolf Standard.

The only speeder I have close to being finished is one with typhoon missile launchers, making it too expensive unless I cut more out of the list.

The long fangs are mainly designed around what models I actualy have, I know that taking such a diverse load out isnt the best idea, but I'm poor and strapped for time.

As for the Grey Hunters, I know how lethal standards can be, but since they're going to be used as more of a fire support role, by the time the wolf standard would be used, the numbers or men remaining would reduce its effectiveness compared to the the special CCW's

And the Lone Wolf is in for two main reasons, one, for its points cost I dont think theres anything better in the game, for example, you can get 8 wolves for the price of my lone wolf, they will have the advantage of a much longer charge and higher numbers (resulting in more attacks(16 base) and more wounds (8)) but they have a save not worth mentioning, low leadership and against any kind of high armor save target they'll crumple due to not having the sheer number of attacks needed to break through armour. The lone wolf on the other hand has a 2+ save and FNP, as well as a 5+invul, so he's not likely to die, and thanks to the wargear he can reliably take down next to anything if he gets in close. And the secind reason, they're fun to play if killpoints come up.

Well since your list is already set, might I suggest some tactics to use.

It looks like your army will be the slower of the two. So you need to lock down any objectives on your side of the table. Put your wolf lord with the meltagun grey hunters. Use this unit to take the middle objectives. Or to close with the enemy in the kill point mission. Your plasma grey hunters need to be parked in cover near an objective. The lone wolf should hang around with these guys and act as a counter assault unit for them. The long fangs need to be in cover with a good field of fire. Use split fire to group the lascannon and missile launcher to knock out enemy transports and use the heavy bolter and plasma cannon to blast foot sloggers.

Good luck. I think you can do well even if your list can't be changed.

I agree with everything but the lone wolf, I find running them up the feild is a good idea, I normaly put them on the flanks, forcing the enemy to either deal with them by diverting their troops (at its points cost, thats all it needs to do) or ignore it and end up with a lone wolf at their lines.

Yea, I agree with your LW tactics. The plasma squad is going to deliver a lot of fire from 24" down to before they get assaulted. A LW in your lines is not where your enemy wants him.
