aekold Posted May 25, 2010 Share Posted May 25, 2010 Last week I had a tournament and I was facing a difficult decision. Last tournament my Deathwing performed abysmally. So I was tempted by the dark side to use the Space Wolves codex and play a wolfwing army. I even made an armylist bust I resisted temptation and decided to take my Deathwing on a crusade of redemption. My list consisted of: Belial with two lightning claws Terminator squad, chainfist, apothecary, two lightning claws, assault cannon. Terminator squad, chainfist, two lightning claws, assault cannon. Terminator squad, chainfist, cyclone missile launcher Terminator squad, 3 times lightning claws, chainfist and heavy flamer, thunderhammer and stormshield ( I know, I know, but It just looks so cool). Landraider crusader Vindicator Vindicator Land speeder with multi-melta and heavy flamer (points to spare) http://i663.photobucket.com/albums/uu355/Cowslayers/220510Toernooi13.jpg Game 1 VS Chaos Space marines. His list consisted of: Lord with wings and daemon weapon. 4 squads of 10 marines in rhino’s. All with Icon of chaos glory, melta’s and powerfists 2 defilers 9 raptors with 2 melta’s powerfist and an Icon of Chaos glory. We played Dawn of war and kill points. The battlefield was dominated by the Fortress of Redemption in the middle of the field with some forests scattered around it. He chose to take the first turn and deployed nothing. Instead he chose to have everything appear on turn 1. I deployed my command squad with belial on the Fortress and the cyclone squad right next to the base. On his first turn he drove 2 rhino’s in the middle of his table edge, flanked on one side by his 2 defilers. His other rhino’s appeared on my far right, while flanking his lord and raptor squad. His shooting saw him drop one terminator of the command squad. On my turn my landraider and vindicators rolled on my right flank to counter his rhino’s and raptors. The land speeder hid behind the fortress of redemption and the last terminator squad walked on behind the cyclone squad. Night fighting severly limited my return fire, only glancing a single rhino. He moves his rhino’s more forward and popped smoke, while keeping his raptors shielded. The defilers managed to kill another terminator of the command squad. In my turn I moved the speeder in melta range of a defiler and reduced the daemonic walker to a smoldering crater. The landraider moves forwards and popped smoke, while the vindicators moved back to stay out of metla range. I failed to open his rhino’s due to the smoke but managed to kill some raptors with a vindicator shot. He dismounted his squads of en two rhino’s in the centre and opened fire on the cyclone terminators. Only a single terminator fell due to a melta shot. The defiler turned to face the speeder and managed to shake it with his autocannon, later achieving the same result in the assault phase. The squad on the right failed to stop the raider due to the smoke. The raptors still hung behind the rhino’s. In the assault phase the two space marine squads assault the cyclone squad and only managed to kill the sergeant while I killed 5 marines of one squad. He passed his morale tests. In my turn I returned to favour by detaching Belial from the command squad and he joind the massive combat carving a bloody path. The remains of the command squad moved after the now empty rhino’s in the hunt for killpoints. The landraider moved towards the rhino wall on the left and the terminators disembarked. The landraider managed to destroy the rhino in front of the terminators while the vindicators wrecked the other rhino and killed some more raptors and marines. In the assault phase the terminators from the raider wiped the marines in front of them, while the normal assault cannon squad charged the marines from the wrecked rhino. Belial and the cyclone squad killed the last marines of one squad, while the other squad reduced to cyclone squad to only the missile launcher. The command squad managed to wreck a rhino. Things where looking grim for my opponent but he still had a defiler and his lord with the raptors. The lord and raptors pounched on the terminators in front of them and the lord killed them all, before they had a chance to strike. The defiler managed to kill any terminators from the command squad but tore on the pieces in close combat. In return the chainfist from the squad cut the monstrosity in two. The combat between belial, the last terminator dragged on with him failing to kill the last terminator and me killing more marines. The assault cannon squad on the left continued to kill marines, while taking no casualties in return, causing them to flee. My turn consisted of mopping up the remaining pieces. A death on shot from the vindicator blew the remaining raptors and lord to pieces, while Belial and the last terminator killed all but one marine who turned tail. After this my opponent conceded. I won with 9 killpoints to 1. Game 2 VS Mech Imperial guard His army consisted of: Hq squad with 4 plasma guns in chimera 2 veteran squads with 3 meltas each in chimeras 2 normal squads in chimeras 2 leman russ battle tanks 1 leman russ demolisher 1 leman russ executioner (blegh, plasma death) 1 sentinel with autocannon. We played spearhead and capture and control. The battlefield was scattered with ruins which severely limited his field of fire. He placed his objective in his far corner and I did the same. From the start on it looked like it would become a draw. The summary of this game can be very simple. I tried to make a push for his objective with my raider, command squad, assault cannon squad and land speeder. Unfortunately it failed due to a lucky glance that destroyed my raider and I stupidly deciding to deepstrike the assault cannon squad, leaving them nice bunched up for the executioner to land plasma templates on top of them. I did however inflict a huge amount of casualties and wrecks which was nice. After having dealt with me assault he tried to return the favor as he pushed for my objective but the cyclone squad and vindicators held him at be, causing the game to draw. Game 3 VS mech Orks. His list consisted of: Ghazghull with 6 nobz in mega armour in a battle wagon with dethroller Big mek with kustom forcefield in a battle wagon with dethroller 4 times 12 boyz with a nob in a truck 3 killakans We played seize ground with 5 objectives in a pitched battle. The objectives where place in the middle of the battlefield. The battlefield was clustered with ruins which would make it difficult for him to reach me. He deployed from left to right: Killakans, two truks with the two other trucks behind, battlewagon with big mek, battlewagon with Ghazghull and nobz I deployed my landraider with assault termis and Belial on the left of my centre. Next to the raider a vindicator, the three remaining terminator squads and the last vindicator. On the far right went the speeder hoping to get a nice side armour shot in the battlewagon with Ghazghull. I managed to seize the initiative so I moved everything a bit forward to make sure that I would be in range. The speeder hid behind some cover, waiting for the opportune moment. My shooting only managed to stun a single truck, all my other penetrating/glancing hits got ignored by the kustom force field. On his turn everything sped forward with the battlewagons smashing through some ruins. With no shooting his turn was quickly over. In my turn I knew it was assault or get assaulted. Given the choice I decided to assault. The speeder moved to the side of ghazghull’s wagon. The raider and terminators one the left moved up to intercept the two buggies that where coming their way. Shooting saw three of the buggies exploding creating a huge area of difficult ground. Also orks died to the blasts of the vindicators. The landspeeder however failed to do any damage to the battle wagon due to the kustom force field. In the assault phase two terminator squads and belial clashed with orks and while I won all the combats they refused to flee due to bosspoles and such. On his turn he decided to tank shock my cyclone terminator squad on the right with the Ghazghull wagon. Throwing caution in the wind I decided to death or glory the big wagon with my chainfist, which resulted in a wrecked battlewagon. A similar faith was suffered by the big mek and his battle wagon as he tried to tank shock the command squad. His killa kans moved up to join the combat with belial and the assault terminators and while I sent the last ork of that squad fleeing the kans tore the terminators apart, leaving only belial standing. The other terminator squad with the assault cannon managed to see of the other orks, but only trhee terminators remained. Ghazghull and his nobz tore into the cyclone terminators that wrecked their ride and the vindicator that was standing beside it. The killed all the terminators and the vindicator while losing three nobs to powerfists in terurn. The command squad that wrecked to other battlewagon where charged by the third squad of boyz, but they won the combat. My fourth turn was getting rather short. The three remaining terminators of the assault cannons squad joined to command squad to route the orks. The vindicator tried to get an angle on ghazghull but got immobilized when trying to turn. If I only had paid to points for those dozer blades. The land raider opened fire on Ghazghull but failed to doe anything significant. Belial got torn to shreds by the kanns while the two remaing terminator squads killed the last orks. On his turn Ghazghull advanced on the two remaining terminator squads while the kans moved towards the raider. His last remaining truck with boyz managed to charge the speeder and make it explode. Ghazghull made short work of the terminator command squad, leaving me with only 3 terminators to claim 5 objectives, That would be tricky. Knowing that they could no escape both Ghazghull and the kans the terminators decided the charge ghazghull and the remaining nobs, only to get butchered for their trouble. In his turn he manage to wreck both my raider and vindicator, thus wiping out my complete force. He was impressed however by the amount of casualties I inflicted. He only had Ghazghull on 2 wound, 1 nob in mega armour, the big mek, 3 kans and 10 boyz in a truck. After all the results were handed in and the scores were calculated it turn out that I was placed second out of 14 with only the ork player of the final battle in front of me. I was also nominated for best painted army which was really nice. Unfortunately I didn’t win best painted but I was still nice to receive a nomination. All in all I had a great day and I proved to myself that the Deathwing are far from Death. For The Lion!!!. Was this the 1700 pts tournament last weekend? Both players place their objective back ad far as possible and if your opponent has no fast vehicles transports it will be very difficult for him to win the game.
