Magna-grapple

Greetings,

I thought I'd post this here as well as in the General PCA Questions to see if any of Sanguinius's Sons can help.

I am busy building a Furioso dreadnought using the venerable dread kit ang the Forgeworld CCW arms. I was thinking about adding a magna-grapple to the dread, but I am not sure how to model it. I was looking at something akin the the Ironclads HK missile launchers, but changing the missile to something more grapple-like.

Has anyone built a magna-grapple and if so, how did you do it and what parts did you use? (If you can provide pics, that even better :) )

Many thanks,

Lestat

That was what I started with, at the moment I've just left it as the missile end. In the Dark Eldar corsair box (I used the sword blades as the talons), there is a kind of grapple/hook that has been modelled onto on of the arm options. i was going to try that.

Kind regards,

GotR

I simply got the HK missile off the Ironclad filed the tip to a squared pike and stuck it in the claw of my Dread, then built a little motor/winch system built into the arm.

Here follow the linky to my BA army stuff. Its about half way down the 1st page.

I did a google image search on "Magna Grapple" and posted the few examples I found in the General PCA questions. Here they are again:

This one is questionable, and replaces one of the CC arms for some reason. (Look at the top of the page)

This one's cooler, but also replaces the CC arm, which I don't think is correct. But I could be wrong.

Look at the third Dread down, my favorite so far.

I'm skeptical about making the CC arm into the magna grapple, it seems like it should be shoulder or hull-mounted to me, but I guess it works for some.

I have done something similar to Eberious, I simply used the Standard Dreadnought CCW arm and put the tip of an Ironclad HK missile in the middle, I think it looks pretty cool-and also looks functional. Ill post a picture once I get some taken, as I only made this model this evening.

That picture of the venerable with the extendo claw is simply awesome :-) a very cool conversion :-D

I used the HK missile from the Ironclad but I cut off the nose and replaced it with the drill bit from FW's siege arm (the rest is set aside to become a Conversion Beamer for my Iron Hands), I think it looks pretty good.

Im considering simply removing the claw part of the talons, attaching guitar wire to it and putting it on the dreads base.

I did something very similar, and found (after mangling my strat) electric guitar strings to look to thin compared to the claw, and also unable to support its weight.

After some trial and error, I found (after mangling my Ibanze) that the D string seems to fit perfectly onto the back of the claw, and with a little green stuff, looks pretty good. And like it might actually be able to pull a tank back with it.
