MuGGzy
So I am sure this has been beat to death, but is there REALLY no "official" or even "opponent consent" rules for DW:KT anymore?? Or do I need to use Sternguard rules for a team now? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202545-deathwatch-kill-team/ Share on other sites
number6
You are correct on all counts. If you're interested in hewing as closely as possible to the old DW PDF, Sternguard are it. Otherwise, DW could be just about anything you like. It's not like there has been extensive fluff or rules for them. Almost anything from a Marines codex could be reasonably interpreted/fluffed up to be DW. xa0s
I miss the HB man's capable of running and still able to shoot HB as if he's standing. :-/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202545-deathwatch-kill-team/#findComment-2414802 Share on other sites
Verythrax Draconis
I miss the HB man's capable of running and still able to shoot HB as if he's standing. :-/ Then you'll need to use them counting as LotD, and give up the ammo. It's not the same thing one way or another, but I like to fool myself thinking that in fact we got 2 different flavors of DW ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202545-deathwatch-kill-team/#findComment-2415128 Share on other sites
Lord Avakian
There was a Chapter Approved back in WD some years ago, is this not viable anymore? It had as I remember 1Hq and 1 marine squad as a single Hq choice and the marines could upgrade to Veterans 2 HB with suspenders(move & shoot) plus special ammo as per Sternguard(current). I wish I kept that edition of WD now ;) Hope this helps. Lord Avakian
The article was valid during 4th ed, I started gaming at the end of 3rd ed and this definitely came out before 5th ed. As far as I new this should still be valid as the ammo is simmilar to those used by sternguard. The Deathwatch article refers to things in the 4th edition Marine codex and BRB that do not exist in the new Codex/BRB (Storm of the Emperor's Wrath, Codicers, the True Grit USR, and the armory). While reasonable people can hammer the DW article into something playable, it simply does not work in an official RAW capacity. That said, by and large Sternguard/Vanguard are superior to the article's Deathwatch Kill Teams anyway. Sternguard special ammo is better, vanguard are just as good at assault, and both provide much better value for points. Blarmb
"opponent consent" rules for DW:KT anymore Anything can be be "opponent consent". You could make up rules for killer space ducks riding on killer space pigs wielding killer space mongoose-chucks, and they'd be fine to use if your opponent consented (but that would be silly). If you really want DW:KT rules, just create something reasonable you think fits. I think most people (I would) give it a fair shake at least once or twice. If it goes through the test without being blatantly OP chances are you could make it a regular thing if you have a stable group you play with. Stormshrug
I feel like Space Wolf Wolf Guard, with their almost complete wargear access and veteran stats, might also be a good way to represent Deathwatch. -Stormshrug Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202545-deathwatch-kill-team/#findComment-2417182 Share on other sites
