Hevra
Hello all, I'm doing a DIY chapter and I want to use a nice dark purple. However, I'm really struggling with the scheme; I wanted to do something like this: http://hevra.co.uk/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/normal_sm.jpg But I'm having real trouble getting the bone to look right against the purple. Does anyone have any suggestions of alternative colours that would work? It's really important that they have purple involved. Thank you! (if this is the wrong place for it, please move as appropriate :)) H Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202589-diy-chapter-colour-advice-required/ Share on other sites
Reyner
That looks fine to me, how about having the shoulder insets purple too? I'll jump on the painter in a minute. Something like that? Hevra
That's really nice :P only thing is, the chapter symbol is in purple (for fluff reasons) so it'll get lost in the background if the pads are purple too. Unless I did a bone coloured circle for the symbol to sit on. DIY chapters are hard work, hehe! Reyner
Yeah putting the icon in a circle could work too, you could swap the trim and the inset though. Tell me about it! I'm struggling with just 2 Chapters there are some folk in this section doing up to 6! Hevra
6? Blimey! Although having said that I do have a couple more ideas kicking around... arrrgh indecision :P btw, does anyone have any tips on painting bone? I've looked at the Storm Ghosts on this forum but I think that might be too hard for me (I'm a rubbish painter) H Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202589-diy-chapter-colour-advice-required/#findComment-2414313 Share on other sites
Reyner
For bone I start with a vermin brown basecoat, then bleached bone, wash with devlan mud and highlight again in bone. It gets the job done, but I haven't done it as a main colour before if you know what I mean? Hevra
Thanks - will give that a whirl. Is that over a white or black basecoat? So far I've tried - Dheneb Stone, washed with Devlan Mud, then more Dheneb Stone - VMC Pale Sand and Quickshade Soft Tone Neither seems to hit to mark, which is a shame as I'm so pushed for time and inherently lazy that dipping would be a godsend :P H Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202589-diy-chapter-colour-advice-required/#findComment-2414325 Share on other sites
Reyner
Mostly over a black undercoat I think, I imagine there wouldn't be much of a difference (then again I'm not the best painter :P) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202589-diy-chapter-colour-advice-required/#findComment-2414330 Share on other sites
Hevra
Hehe, me neither. I get disheartened too easily - always takes me by mild surprise that my imagination won't just pour out of my brush hand onto the miniatures. Always annoying when you have something cool in your mind's eye but what you produce doesn't do it justice. Thank you for all your help - I'll get the IA posted later this afternoon for C&C and I'll carry on experimenting with colours when I get home. Ace Debonair
Yeah putting the icon in a circle could work too, you could swap the trim and the inset though. Tell me about it! I'm struggling with just 2 Chapters there are some folk in this section doing up to 6! Well, I'm working on three, with another one-half done and two total-rewrites for my other old chapters waiting in the wings... So six in total, but not all at once. :) The colours posted by Reyner look pretty good. If purple is very important to the colour scheme you could always do a halfed bone/purple scheme, which would look pretty awesome too. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202589-diy-chapter-colour-advice-required/#findComment-2414426 Share on other sites
Reyner
Yeah half and half would look great. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202589-diy-chapter-colour-advice-required/#findComment-2414443 Share on other sites
