Here follows the account of the Storm Angels.

 

Before the days of the Horus Heresy, the Storm Angels were a part of the proud Ultramarines. After the dark times of the Horus Heresy and the inception of the Codex Astartes, as laid down by Roboute Guilliman, the venerable Storm Angels were created during the second founding and split off from the Ultramarines. In honour of the service as Ultramarines, the Storm Angels kept the primary colours of the Ultramarines, and only included white pauldrons in order to differ them from the Ultramarines.

 

The name of the chapter was derived from the planet Temperus, which the chapters marines had liberated with great dismay during its time as Ultramarines in the Great Crusade. The planet's skies were often victim of sudden and violent storms, and this had caused the need for a change in their combat tactics to adapt to the outbreak of these sudden storms. The change in tactics had proven succesful on later battlefields, and therefore the newborn chapter adopted the name Storm Angels to reflect this newly acquired change in combat tactics.

 

Temperus is a planet ridden with storms, which have a tendency to form suddenly and violently. Power armour provides some protection from the storms, but it is still considered near suicide to linger in a storm, even when wearing power armour. The planet is designated a Y-class planet, which indicates that Temperus is a civilised world. The population of Temperus is generally placed within big cities in the shape of large fortresses that can provide suitable protection from the storms. The chapter fortress of the Storm Angels is located in a vast chain of mountains on the northern hemisphere of Temperus.

 

Because of the special climate conditions on Temperus, the special combat tactics of the Storm Angels are based primarily on mobility. Therefore, the Storm Angels prefer mechanised transports and speed, allowing them to outride the violent storms. This also causes the Storm Angels to prefer short range shooting over melee, thus avoiding being bogged down in close quarter fighting whilst storms erupt. The storms however, have little or no effect on terminator suits and dreadnoughts which is why such hallowed weapons of war is often employed by the Storm Angels. Also, the initiates of the Storm Angels, serving as scouts in the 10th company, are often equipped with cloaks that hopefully shelter them from the most violent of storms. This also serves as a extra means of weeding out the unworthy from donning the mantle of the power armour. If you cannot survive in the torn landscape of Temperus without the added protection of power armour, you are not worthy to bear it.

 

The current chaptermaster of the Storm Angels, Vandus Octavian, bears the title of Storm Angel, first and foremost of all his fellow brother marines in both strength, tactical knowledge and wisdom.

 

The 1st company of the Storm Angels is lead by the venerable Brother-Captain Thadon Ares. Brother-captain Ares is named after an ancient terran god of war, predating the devotion to the emperor by several millennia. The name is rightly given, as Brother-captain Ares revels in the heart of combat, only truly alive when he is fully emerged in gory melee combat and therefore, Brother-Captain Ares usually leads the battle from the frontlines. His lifestyle is also reflected in his choice of wargear in battle, as he is equipped with an ancient terminator armorsuit, a storm shield to deflect even the mightiest blows, and an ancient chapter-relic named the Hammer of Angels, which is a mastercrafted thunderhammer that strikes a blow even mightier than the ordinary thunderhammer.

 

The 2nd company is lead by the esteemed tactician Gaius Quintus. Brother-captain Quintus prefers the tactical overview and therefore usually directs the battle behind the lines, unless his might and prowess is needed at the frontlines of the battle. In his stead at the frontline, the codicier librarian Falken usually supports the 2nd company on the frontlines. Librarian Falken, often seem transporting the hallowed Terminators of the 1st company, is a revered librarian in the chapter, and is a formidable force to be reckoned with.
