Time to fight some Tyranids...

Recommended Posts

Mephiston is lovely against tyranids in my experience. Sanguine sword can have him killing 3 carnifexes in a turn.

Ummm...... ><;

Force Weapon tests - yes.

Sanguine sword - no.

Fexs have 4 wounds and T6. Sang Sword will only help make the wounds easier.

He could do 2 in a turn - SSword/Force Weapon/Force Weapon? and kill the 3rd with just sheer wounds?

Yup!

Max wounds = 6 (statistically 4 hitting though).

That means one on each, and yup he could double force weapon 2 of em and then have the last one take the remaining two wounds.

(Which depending on return wounds would mean around 8 armour saves for the fex -not good odds. (But again, Force Weapon rather than Sang Sword!)

Success!

My list ended up:

Reclusiarch w/ PFist

Libby w/ Blood Lance & Shield

Sang Priest w/ Lightning Claw & CombiPlas

Corbulo

Sternguard x8 w/ 2 CombiPlas & PFist in a Rhino

Death Co. x9 w/ THammer & PWep in a Rhino

Assault Squad x10 w/ meltasx2 & PFist

Assault Squad x9 w/ flamer & PWep

DC Dread w/ BTalons

Two Baals, Assault Cannons & Heavy Bolters

Two lessons learned here:

1. Always give the Dread a method of transport.

2. Baals ROCK against Tyranid MC's.

His list was something like:

Hive Tyrant

Trygon Prime x2

Harpy

Carnifex

Tervigon x2

Termagant squad x2

Death Leaper

The idea was to have as many MC's as possible.. and that he had the models for. I was a little scared, I've never had great luck taking on MC's... but they've almost always been Wraithlords.

We played the Vanguard mission out of the Battle Missions book.

First turn I rolled on, shredded his Harpy with two Assault Cannons from the Baals.

He started to respond, but he'd spread out across the deployment line. I scrunched up in the corner, moving up the side. His ranged attacks didn't do much (nothing, actually).

Second turn I immobilized a rhino on a hill, the one with Corbulo and the assault squad.

My Assault Cannons and Heavy Bolters tore into a Trygon Prime.

I assaulted the wounded Trygon Prime with the JPack assault squad, and killed it. Prepared to take the charge from his Tervigon and Gant squad.

Death Leaper appeared and stunned a Baal (lowered LD of Libby by 3). Luckily, the super slow DC Dread was right next to the Baals...

Due to some terrible rolls on my part, the entire JPack squad was wiped with the exception of its PFist sarge. The tervigon only suffered a couple wounds, along with its squad of gants.

Third turn!

I rolled the Death Co. out and prepared to assault the other tervigon and its squad of gants. I rolled up the Sternguard squad with the librarian and CombiPlas priest... and proceeded to hose down the Hive Tyrant. It never had a chance.

Corbulo and Assault Squad to the rescue! They assaulted the mob surrounding the lone PFist Sarge (more accurately, they ONLY assaulted the Tervigon). Killed it, and it killed a number of gants... which failed to kill my PFist Sarge. The combat was won, and the beasts fled (no more synapse).

The Death Company wiped out the Tervigon and the one DC I got into b2b with his gants (denying them the charge) killed a no gants.

FNP, FC & Counter-attack on termagants is NASTY!

DC suffered one casualty vs. the gant's revenge.

Oh, the Dread melta'd Death Leaper. Roasted bug smell everywhere.

Having only a Trygon Prime, a 'fex and two squads of gants left.. the 'nid player wasn't looking on the bright side of things.

The Prime assaulted the DC, the gants tried to kill the Sternguard (killed a couple). Corbs hopped in the DC rhino to contest one objective occupied by gants, the lone JP Sarge hopped to secure an uncontested objective.

Fourth turn, the Trygon Prime slowly wittles down the DC and all that's left is a Thunder Hammer and the PFist Reclusiarch. All of his gants die.

I secure two objectives and have plenty of firepower left he has a wounded 'fex and trygon... he abdicates at the start of the fifth turn.
