Captain Psycho
Just wondering how everyone out there models the special weapons model(s) in their assault squads. The rules state that the special weapon replaces the bolt pistol so do most of you equip a chainsword in one hand and a flamer/meltagun in the other? Or do you just have the model grip the special weapon with two hands like a tactical marine? Anyone care to share some pics of their model's poses? I was not going to include the chainswords on mine so that I could use those bitz later on other models but now I'm thinking the models might look sweet with both if posed well. Thanks! JamesI
I have some modeled so they are holding the meltagun like a tactiacal marine, while others have both the meltagun and the chainsword.
Malus the Destroyer
Well, since the special weapon guys don't get the bonus attack for 2 CCW, you can always model a chainsword bayonette on that melta or flamer..... Actually, I have a new project now!
Captain Psycho
Jamesl do you have any pics? I checked your blog but didn't see any (nice dred conversion btw).
JamesI
I'll try to get some up. Don't have any pictures of regular squads in my gallery right now. (and I didn't build the Furioso dread, it was a gift)
Rybnick
I usually have 1 assault marine with a special weapon + chainsword and the other just holding the special weapon like a tactical marine would in each 10 man squad. I'm working on making a chain sword that looks right strapped to the hip of the tactical style special weapon assault marine, but haven't made it look quite right yet. I didn't bother to magnetize the arms of my special weapon holders as they will normaly be holding a melta. I may eventually go back and add a magnet for a flamer, but as of now I don't plan on it. Captain Psycho
@Rybnick: I think I'm going to do the same thing with my 5 man assault squads, I want to be able to switch between flamers and meltaguns depending on the army I'm facing but magnetizing the arms is too much of a pain in the @rse for me and I don't want to use up the two additional chainswords. So I think I'll just make two models with chainswords/meltaguns and two with just flamers. If you can, please post some pics of the strapped-to-the-hip chainsword once it is done, I love getting ideas for new conversions even if it means I'll have to buy more bitz. @Jarakin: I count eight models in that squad (kind of hard to see on my blackberry) are you adding a second special weapon to that squad? If so how are you going to model?
Jarakin
Have another two off camera, both standard CCW/BP. I have another 5 primed black (all CCW/BP), but I'm planning on picking up a further 5 (probably use DC) and I'll likely be adding a few MGs and perhaps magnetise FL's along with 'em. Not totally sure what I'll do yet, whether I'll do a conversion or stick with the Gun + CCW or a Tactical style stance instead... will let you know when I decide!<_<
Angelus Mortifer
I modelled mine pretty standard, some with a holstered side-arm, but I've never thought to have a Chainsword for some reason... a very cool idea. Looks like my next squad will have just that then  http://i741.photobucket.com/albums/xx54/SebJones_photos/Blood%20Angels/AS2nd7.jpg
ShinyRhino
I do mine holding the special weaponw ith both hands, like a tactical Marine: http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z43/goalie20/Warhammer%2040K/assaultsquad2.jpg
Tame
I decided to recycle AoBR marines for the special weapons for my assault squad, and do more dynamic poses with more bling on my Honor Guard. I'm currently painting them, here are some pics: (Please forgive crappy painting/picture) http://uppix.net/d/e/b/8345126898b25e6fa8319baf062c8.jpg http://uppix.net/9/3/2/d7e504804587775fa335804196384.jpg http://uppix.net/5/4/7/6c2892aff6c8e1b8b8ad6feb77cba.jpg

toaae
I have some modeled so they are holding the meltagun like a tactiacal marine, while others have both the meltagun and the chainsword. ^This All of my guys with these weapons were done for the old PDF VAS, so I need to repaint their shoulders and remove the capes, but here is an example: http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r313/tahaal/HanksMinitures176.jpg http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r313/tahaal/HanksMinitures017.jpg

I might remove the jump pack and meltagun from one of my AoBR ones and make one like that instead. I really like the pose, it really looks dynamic & agressive. Captain Psycho
Yeah the pose on that middle model is pretty sweet, very dynamic. @Angelus Mortifer: did you free hand the 8th squad markings? I tried using water slides from the tac box for the 7th squad markings but they either break apart or won't stick to the knee properly. Free hand is the next thing I want to try but I need some practice. Nicely done. Interesting that so many of the pics have the models holding the special weapon with both hands - you don't even see an example in the codex and it never even occured to me until I started converting some BA tacs I'd painted to assault marines. Angelus Mortifer
Yeah, squad knee markings are freehand. I try and paint the outline of the shape first so then I can block it out once done. The problem with the yellow background is that it can be a pain to rectify any mistakes that spill over onto the yellow area.
