Though I haven't read the spearhead rules aside from the PDF yet, it seems clear from the getting started with spearhead web article that you take spearheads as one entry in your modified FoC. That is, though transports selected as parts of a spearhead "count-as" heavy support choices and don't require troops to be purchased to get them, they are not part of your normal FoC, they're part of the single "spearhead" entry bolted onto your FoC.

 

The example ultramarine army in that article for instance has 3x raiders, 3x vindis, 3x predators and 4x rhinos.

 

All I can say is..."Got Melta?" because you're going to need it. <_<

Well i got sucked into playing a spearhead game this weekend and i had 3 LRR with 15 TH/SS termies and Vulkan outflanking and hit a side of the table which absolutely wiped out several tanks and a super heavy. Best part is that i took out his super heavy killed and the warhound titan on our side took out several MC's and supported my armoured assault. Even better though was that with all of our fire power they could not get on our side and they couldnt kill any of my termies and there was a rule that all units in formations counted as scoring units. All i lost was one LRR. The outflanking three tanks is epic.

I have to point out something, and it was highlighted when Beasts of war stated it: rotating the table 90degrees makes outflank so much more powerful. The 3 tanks can move on 12", infantry get out for 2", add the base of a terminator at about an one inch and then the 6 inch charge. 20" of charge potiental. Means only 8" of the board that forms a corridor is safe from it. And lets face it: can you fit all your tanks in there?

 

I do believe the high competitive players will no doubt be using the 15 terminators and 3 land raider mechanised assault formation, the thing is far too hard to not use. Another note is that all you need is two to be chainfists and one to be thunder hammers and your all good (but I personally would take all chainfists ^-^). However I will be seeing your land raider rush from the flanks made negated. 3 land raiders of my own with the armoured behemoth rule should help: Face the might of my land raiders.

 

As for super-heavy, I'm not sure. I mean I am tempted and it gives me a reason to get a necron pylon or warhound but it doesn't seem worth it. However that said I still wonder what the crusher spearhead plus 3 rushing rhinos would be like, would be quite nasty!

So... will venerable dreads get to re-roll glancing and penetrating for Archeotech? The venerable rules says you get to "[...]ask your opponent to re-roll the result rolled on the Vehicle Damage chart." So no re-rolls on damage chart if you roll a 1 or 2?

 

12 re-rollable strength 8 shots with rifle dreads? That many glancing a land raider HAS to do something :unsure:

 

Or 3 strength 10 all lascannon preds. That's 9 lascannons, 3 of which are re-rollable!

 

Also, will Chronus finally be useful now? Chapter master 454, Imagine your landraider (supported by 2 venerables and a techmarine with servitors) always hitting on a 2+ instead of 3+. Ouch.

My friend, my faithful land raider phobos 'Stoorworm' has never entered the fray without cronus aiming the guns. I shall also let you know that if I am to use any formation, my land raiders would have the armoured behemoth save. Also please note I am well aware of alot of combos, trust me because I wouldn't be a true treadhead if I didn't know all the tricks and such. (and trust me, I know alot. I shall say that 3 infiltrating predators is alot more deadly than you think. It's not about getting close, it's about linig up the first shot!).

 

My land raiders also have never seen a techmarines help ever, this is because I feel my faith in them is more than enough to protect them. So far my opponent is yet to nail more than one and thats after they score numerous weapon destroyed results and immobilises. Takes a lickin', keeps on tickin'! Fear my armoured might and fear my venerable dreadnoughts. (out of my entire army, my two venerables and 3 land raiders are the most potent force I've ever fielded closely followed by my preds. Don't mess with my armour!)
