Ultramarine Movie trailer

Like all Warhammer 40k materials, it has a slanted perspective. This can be chocked up to an unreliable narrator. Obviously, this narrator has never been out to Fenris. John Hurt's mistake is understandable, brothers. Just make sure you correct anybody who propagates his error.

:D

-Stormshrug

The Ultramarines are the greatest Space Marines in the definition of Space Marines. They DEFINE Space Marines.

That's okay, because we don't need that. We do our own stuff. We go our own way. Russ would slap your face for comparing us to Ultramarines. You just can't do that.

Enraged the wolf in me

To hear the line 'the greatest space marines of all are the Ultramarines'

Really? Are you honestly that angry that you are starting a 'why-oh-why' thread, rather than simply expressing your displeasure in the pre-existing one. So it supports a piece of fluff already written. We know people don't like that, hell, I don't like it (because it engenders feelings like this, besides the fact that it is untrue). But we don't need to start what I fear will devolve into a hate-thread to express our displeasure at it being repeated.

Besides it's a hook. If it was Space Wolves: A Warhammer 40,000 Movie, they would say 'the most ferocious'. If it was Blood Angels, they would say the 'noblest'. If it were Imperial Fists, they would be the 'the most stubborn and tenacious'. The Ultramarines are described, rightly or wrongly, as the greatest. What did you expect them to say?

is it not tarik torgadden himself who said who would win in a fight

'the wolves of russ because they are clinically insane'

So it 'enrages' you when the Ultramarines Movie says that the Ultramarines are the greatest, but it is all fine and dandy when Horus Rising makes a similar assertion, but this time in your favour? Okay :)

Besides, that is Torgaddon's opinion. He is not necessarily right. I think that the Dark Angels, the First, the Sons of the Lion, are the greates Legion of all. I am sure that you agree...

I laugh at the stoicism of the ultramarines

Borderline flaming. How nice. By the way:

Stoicism (adjective): not affected by or showing passion or feeling; especially : firmly restraining response to pain or distress <a stoic indifference to cold>

^That sounds like the Iron Hands. The Ultramarines allow their passion for the Emperor to instill them, but not to dictate their actions. That is not, however, a lack of passion or emotion. Even the Wolves excercise cunning, along with their customary bloodlust. The Ultramarines are stoic only in regards to physical pain.

Another definition:

of, relating to, or resembling the Stoics or their doctrines <Stoic logic>

The Stoics: a member of a school of philosophy founded by Zeno of Citium about 300 b.c. holding that the wise man should be free from passion, unmoved by joy or grief, and submissive to natural law

^Those ideals do not fit the Ultramarines. Period. Read their IA.

get a grip soft lad I was taking the piss

While I am not thrilled that they are focusing on the UltraSmurfs but I feel that any Movie is going to be better then none. Besides Brother....You know as well as I do that if you want something to look precise and pretty and impressive, you send the Ultramarines. They are the epitome of what in the Army is called a "Drill and Ceremony" Company. You have a Parade or a inspection, Or in this case,a Movie...You send the Ultramarines.

If you want something dealt with then you point the Space Wolves at the problem and get the hell out of the way. When we deal with a problem,It aint pretty,It ain't allways precise, But it is dealt with fast and effectively. When you absolutely, positively, have to kill every last xeno scum on the planet accept no substitute.

Exterminatus is only used when Space Wolves can't reach the planet in a timely manner.

rather i think it was a poor response to what was a great rebuttle to your whine thread.. i think you should thank your stars that no-ones reported you for making personal comments about your deabte opponent here.

on a more related note, i have to agree with the sentiment of the wolf brothers here, im an ultra nut and am happy that they are concentrating on us.. we knew that many wouldnt like it but this is a movie being released to the general public, many of whom have no idea about the 40k 'verse.. The ultras are the perfect choice to reprisent the space marines to a blank canvas audience

You're thinking of the Blood Angels.

EDIT: Thanks, GC08

yes because wont that be the worst thing that happened to me this week

do you really expect me to be enraged at this

it seems you and your fanboy mate are far upset at this than me who was having a laugh at the long awaited trailer of an eagerly anticipated film and it was a massive let down which made fact of a very objective line 'they are the greatest'

we love the chapters we play for a specific reason just like you love the sports teams for specific reasons as well

as for insult if you get upset by that one I worry for you in the big bad world, the lad went over the top in what was a light hearted post regarding a readily talked about subject - GW predisposition towards the Ultramarines as their flagship chapter when they are one of the least popular chapters out there in gaming terms

It's getting a bit hot in here, lets not turn this into a flame war.

Guys, don't feed the trolls.

OT, it's a movie about the ultramarines, true or not, they are represented in fluff as the greatest of them all, so its inevitable it will be mentioned. If you don't like it, don't watch the movie?

I should have clarified. By pretty I meant pressed uniforms, shiny boots, and so on. The Ultramarines are the epitome of by the book. Their Primarch wrote the book after all. And yes,as much as my Chapter Loyalty wants to disagree, the Ultramarines probably would be the best option to present to the world at large. After all...they are fairly generic, nothing off the wall that people could misunderstand about them like Blood Angels (space vampires) Space Wolves (Viking Werewolves in Space) or Dark Angels (Emo Goths with Guns and not a single Hot Topic within a thousand miles) About the only thing that they could infer about the Ultramarines, are that all Space Marines are arrogant gits...and honestly, yeah we kinda do have that problem a bit lol. Some Chapters more then others.

Sigged!

You have my pity, but perhaps taking out your frustrations on others is a little out of order No?

do you really expect me to be enraged at this

not at all, which is why my post was very clear simply that your OP showed no signs of sarcasm or your now revised meaning of what you meant..

there were no emoticons used, simply read as written it was a whine thread.

Then to reply with a personal comment about the poster regardless of how hurtful is both against forum rules and common courtesy.

it seems you and your fanboy mate are far upset at this than me who was having a laugh at the long awaited trailer of an eagerly anticipated film and it was a massive let down which made fact of a very objective line 'they are the greatest'

Just so you know, im not a fanboy. I like ultras and are pleased about the movie just as you would be about a Sw movie.

Which kinda begs the question, you looked up a movie called the ultramarines movie and are suddenly upset/wanting to have a laugh becuase *shock horror* it has ultramarines in it and they say they are the greatest..

we love the chapters we play for a specific reason just like you love the sports teams for specific reasons as well

Exactly, a little understanding goes a long way

You made no mention of GWs predispostion, nor any humour.. and as i said personal attacks of any kind are against forum rules and decency.

I can only leave you with this and hope you rethink your attitude.

good day to you sir

A lot of it is (in my opinion) because the Ultras are GWs epitome of what it is to be a marine. It was their primarch who wrote the codex astartes after all, laying the foundation for chapters to follow (or not, if you're that bothered about it - Wolves, BAs etc). Let's not forget that pretty much all marines are psycho killing machines held in check with hypno/chemical conditioning, including the Ultras. Just because they operate according to the dictats of their primarch doesn't make them boring. We wolves operate as Russ intended, as do other chapters. Personally I don't care that it's the blueys featuring center stage, I just hope it's a good story.

That's why I like to be a Wolf. Nobody tries to keep us in check with anything. We're just psycho killing machines (who have access to unlimited supplies of ale and meat), period.

I think the OP was just joking, this is the fang, certainly not the most ordered section of B and C, but certainly the most laid back, where on other forums you have to note where you are joking, with us wolves you have to note when you are being serious.

Also I think you may have been over reacting a bit Brother captain Alecto, but I can understand how it could get to you, I just think that Matt Ward single handedly given the space marine fanbase an extrmemely bad case of "Broken Base", by turning a decent chapter into a chapter of Mary Sues, when combined with his other actions, you start to wonder wherever or not GW is trying to commit suicide by keeping him on, I mean is there a single codex/army book that has not desecrated fluff, split the player base, been about as imbalenced as your average drunk or any combination of the above?

And is there any way to see it without signing up?

Fair. But remember, we can still be well-dressed whilst kicking some ass.

do you really expect me to be enraged at this

Well, you stated that you were, you used no emoticon to indicate humour and having to deal with collecting 'one of the least popular chapters out there in gaming terms' and all the associated stick does not really make me assume the best about people in the keyboard courage world of the internet.

fanboy mate

So I am a 'fanboy' now am I. Okay :)

made fact of a very objective line 'they are the greatest'

Subjective. It's a subjective line.

as for insult if you get upset by that then I worry for you in the big bad world, the lad went over the top in what was a light hearted post regarding a readily talked about subject

And you failed to convey your intentions in a clear way. Especially considering that this is a sensitive subject for many Ultras players, especially considering the stick we get. By the way, the emoticons are located at the top left corner of the posting box ;). I find they help with online humour.

If you think I went over the top there then I worry for you in the big bad world. I think I expressed my view fairly reasonably, to be honest.

GW predisposition towards the Ultramarines as their flagship chapter when they are one of the least popular chapters out there in gaming terms

To be honest, if the Space Wolves or Imperial Fists or Red Scorpions or Relictors or Dark Angels or Angry Marines or Hungry Hippos of Dorn were in the same position as we were, I imagine they would get the same treatment.

Good day to you.

Post Scriptum: Kindly stop referring to me as 'lad'. It's both patronising and ill-informed. Toodle-pip. ;)

EDIT: @RunePriestRidcully. Re: The humour: I'm off back to my ordered regimenting at Macragge (*stalks off muttering about indiscipline...). Mat Ward, I agree with. But we didn't write it, neither did Roboute Guilliman. I just wish people would remember that. There is no way to see it without signing up. You could try Youtube.

I actually despise the notion we are psycho killing machines. I"d rather us stick to the cunning, determined uber killes of all enemies of the imperium and staunch killers of those imperial organizations who would try and make us submit.

With respect to the ultras.....GW needs some type of poster marine to attract folks to the hobby. Also, I'm not disturbed by the Ultras being seen as so strong. Ultramar is an empire within an empire. But the Galaxy is big, and there are plenty of astartes who can kick big BooTe.
