For my armies iconology i will be using a lot of chinese symbols for various things. The only problem is that i cant find a translation website that translates the words to how you would say them in english.

Example: I translate teacher and i get $%$ back instead of Sensei.

I need a website / person who could help me with the Teacher = Sensei part instead of $%$, if you know what i mean

Words i need translated:

Master (warlord / army leader)

Captain (second in command type thing)

Sergeant (squad leader, leader of several other men)

Foot soldier (Basic squad member who takes orders)

Initiate (newbie, scout, ect.)

If you can think of any other words that i would use for what ever in a army i am open to suggestions.. or if you have a website link it and ill have something to do

First of all, Sensei is actually Japanese, not Chinese. If you do happen to get the term "Sensei" out of a Chinese dictionary, it probably means something else.

Your problem seems to be that you're using dictionaries that spit out Kanji without any romanization of the words.

I did a bit of research, and found these sites, and these look pretty much right given what I've seen in the past.

However, one difficulty is that you're dealing with the Space Marine ranking system, which doesn't line up perfectly with the Japanese ranking system (or a modern American military ranking system.

Offhand, it seems like "Taichou" (Tai-cho) would not be inappropriate for a Space Marine Captain, "Shogun" would be reasonable for the Chapter Master, if a bit antiquated (there are probably more modern terms for "commander in chief"), and "Gunsou" (Goon-so) would be alright for Sergeant. For basic soldiers, you could use something like "Bushi" (Boo-shi) which, while not a military rank, simply means "warrior."

I'm by no means an expert on any of this, though.

Words i need translated:

Master (warlord / army leader) Shunjin (As in Master of Servants etc) Shireikan (Commander)

Captain (second in command type thing) Shunsho (I prefer the word for Major [being a GITS:SAC fan - Sho sa :o )

Sergeant (squad leader, leader of several other men) Gunsho

Foot soldier (Basic squad member who takes orders) Toho de heitai (Literally foot soldier) genan (Footman or servant) Gunjin (Serviceman)

Initiate (newbie, scout, ect.) Nyukai saseru

I just had a look in my Eng-Jap dictionary and the words highlighted seem to fit best (I used the Military terms or the next best word)

I tend not to use the Interweb for my Japanese translations unless I have no other choice (and even then take it all with a pinch of salt, well a dump truck :P )

I'd get a dictionary - they're fairly cheap, have a fair bit in them about syntax etc and they have the Katagana/Hiragana in them if you are going to use the Japanese language for banners etc. I have 3 and am currently trying to get the Kanji books, but am broker than a broke thing at the moment :( )

I can't say that I'll always be able to find what you need, but am able to help via PM (or indeed here, although bear with me as my work patterns aren't set in stone  )

Ganbatte!

:D

EDIT: Just looked at what you've put in OP and realised that you wanted CHINESE - oops, I don't have any knowledge of Chinese outside of Firefly curses :D
