Aqui
As some of you may know, I have had some serious thought about my DIY Chapter - the Steel Wings. It was originally going to be a BA successor, but as I hadn't researched what the BA is all about these days (i.e. ALL successors have to have Black Rage etc), I made a giant pig's ear of it. I've decided to make it so the Chapter had a disaster a long time ago (which will be revealed over time in my story, when I can get rid of the writers block...) and that the vast majority of their records have been lost (or perhaps deliberately deleted) To help me work out details, I've started a story (link in my sig) that focuses on a few notable events, characters etc to make the fluff a lot more believable. What I have so far are three Dreadnoughts where are collectively known as the Triumvirate: A former Chapter Master, a Devastator Sergeant and an Assault Marine (Who once decided to attack a Chaos Rhino with nothing more than a chainsword and a Krak grenade and survived intact afterwards for another 90 years or so.... no one knows how he managed it :) ) . I have a good idea that the Venerable Dreadnought is the obvious choice for the CM, but I'm struggling a little with the other two. I can see various ways I can make a "Devastator Dreadnought" out of the Iron clad Dread perhaps, but I want the Assault one to really be "up close and personal" just as the way he was pre internment. However, in my opinion that would mean two power fists (as I'm not that keen on the Chain fist, although I could be swayed :) ) , but the only way I can do this is either get two "standard" Dreadnoughts and cannibalise the bits, or get a Furioso and do it that way. The first option is a bit expensive as for now I only want three Dreadnoughts and the second is that I'm very rusty at converting stuff and the thought of removing all of the BA related stuff (as awesome as it is) is a bit daunting. Can any one suggest loadouts that would be in keeping with the above that I haven't thought about? Thanks in advance :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202894-dreadnought-loadouts-for-my-diy-chapter/ Share on other sites

Aqui
well you could do the dev armed with 2x tl autocannons. and the assault dread....drill and seismic hammer? I've just had a quick look at the Seismic hammer, and the pictures I had seen before I thought were a weird looking power fist ;) I haven't seen a Drill arm though (unless it's a scratch built item) I'll have to stretch my search-fu and see what I can find. Thanks for the heads up ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202894-dreadnought-loadouts-for-my-diy-chapter/#findComment-2418211 Share on other sites
Aqui
Right I've found the Hammer and drill at the Forge world site. I'll have to have a think about which I intend to have a go at first! :D However, if anyone else has other ideas..... ;) Thanks again Razblood :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202894-dreadnought-loadouts-for-my-diy-chapter/#findComment-2418240 Share on other sites
ChaplainMathreyn
I'm pretty dang sure the Imperial Fists, and other siege-oriented, either breaking or creating, have variants of "Siege Dreadnaughts"... Ala, heavy weaponry (Lascannons, missiles.... Plasma cannons... :D ) The Furioso Dreadnaught was built for bloody hand-to-hand... However, a one thing: Dreadnaughts are more often than not "in sleep mode", resting so that the poor, broken soul trapped inside doesn't go batcrap crazy, for very long periods of time... I do not, realisticaly, Dreadnaughts could serve as leadership... They'd be unavailable 3/4s of the dang time. I should have said that one of the Dreadnoughts was a former Chapter Master :D as you're right: Dreadnoughts don't stay active much beyond being on the Battlefield. Think of him (them even) as being like Bjorn the Fell Handed ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202894-dreadnought-loadouts-for-my-diy-chapter/#findComment-2418250 Share on other sites
Lord_Reven
I know of 1 chapter master who was a dreadnought AND still a chapter master. Was one of the BA successor masters in the book Red Fury.
