Raptors

Recommended Posts

hey guys.

im lookging to increase the size of my iron warriors (again) and decided thta something quick was needed. i have a 5 man melta biker squad and i feel the need to add some raptors for a nice mix of speed, combat effectiveness and awesome.

only problem is, i cant see iron warriors taking raptors, it doesnt really fit their style of play.

has anybody thought of a way through this with out saying "these are some night lords, they are bezzies with my iron warriors"

thanks

SB

You could paint up a squad of renegade marines as Raptors. Different groups of renegades into one(Also allows YOU to dictate the squad size) that act as the jump infantry that the Iron Warriors don't like using themselves.

In a nutshell, renegades who tag along with the Iron Warriors and act as their Fast Attack.

Iron Warriors would not have any raptor 'CULT' in their warbands. However i'm sure there would be some IW with jump packs.

Assault marines would be ideal for taking any breaches in the enemies defences, after the big guns have reduced them to rubble of course ;)

In Storm of Iron some of the warriors are little better than Berzerkers. Just because they aren't assault marine specialists dose not meen they would not have any.

I'm sure a Primarch as practical as the great Perturabo :D would have recognised the usefulness of jump packs. He just would not have based his strategies around them.

I would't use the raptor models.

by the way awesome War Smith!

i suppose that perturabo would recognise their abillity to turn a fight on the walls into a massacre...

im more set on jump packs than teleporters and id rather not include other factions. im not sure, i guess i could equip them with meltas and say they are for weakening strong points in defences (like pill boxes, tanks and heavy guns) before moving on allowing the main force to push at the weakened defence.

any more ideas on a fluffy convertion i could make would be great, im trying to cover all units on the codex in a fluffy iron warriors way.

thanks

you could always try and model some "pre heresy" jump packs, and just say they are the remnants of an assault wing from then.

i may use this idea just because it doesn't move away from using iron warriors for all roles, from what i read of Storm OF Iron people with other geneseeds are not very welcome(granted he was of Imperial fist origin)

Iron Warriors players (myself included) have something of a bias to assume they're a vehicles-themed Legion (due to formerly being able to take awesome vehicles as a Legion ability), but the truth is, they're a siege-and-fortification-themed Legion. Now, ask yourself: which is going to be more useful during a siege or holding a fort: guys on jet packs or guys on bikes? It's the former by a mile, at least in my opinion.

the actual raptor models are a bit expensive, and as they are metal I doubt that you get the bits you want... what you do is; grab a box of CSM's and the loyalist jump packs off the site and do them up that. Personally I grabbed 2 assault boxes and I had extra CSM torso fronts, heads and arms. You could do it either way and have twice as many models for an equal or lesser value, and possibly with better options

If you can get a hold on some of the old 2nd/3rd edition raptors I think that the heads and arms where separate from the body. They had the leathery winged jump back, which I would replace with either the normal assault marine or Blood Angles jump pack. Or option two would be take a bezerker box set and head swap or de-ear them and file off the marks of Khorne and give them jump packs. Either can have very good results.
