Blarmb
How about this as a practical exercise. Look up rending in your BrB and tell me what you find. I already listed the pages and quotes, but I think unless you actually do it it yourself, you won't believe that there is no rending special rule, there is only Rending weapons which fall under the heading Special Close Combat Weapons. There are two entries for rending. The first being the Rending weapon characteristic, the second being the special weapon type of "Rending Weapons". One is a type of weapon, the other is a property weapons can have. Mark of the Wolfen could easily be conferring the Rending characteristic to standard weapons. I think wording tends to imply it is. "They have the rending special rule" is closer in wording to "They have the rending weapon characteristic" than "Mark of the Wolfen is a rending weapon" or "they are treated as having rending weapons". It's all silly really, since there is no rending special rule MotW does nothing by RAW. Therefore any time MotW is doing anything you're entering the area of house ruling and subjective interpretation. Meaning there really isn't a "Right" answer to a functional MotW, since any functional MotW isn't RAW. I certainly have my opinion and have presented my reasons for my opinion, but I really don't think there is too much more meat in this discussion, for the reasons outlined in this paragraph. EDIT: Stupid spell check. EDIT(AGAIN): Worst post ever. EDIT: Stupid spell check. EDIT(AGAIN): Worst post ever. And yet both sections refer to Rending as a WEAPON. One as a characteristic of a WEAPON and the other as a Rending Special WEAPON. But yea, even tho Mark of the Wulfen points out what is being used as weapons (claws and fangs) and even tho the BRB states Rending is a characteristic of WEAPONS and you have Rending Special WEAPONS, I can see how it is so unclear that they are weapons..... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202985-is-rending-waisted-on-a-pf/page/2/#findComment-2423461 Share on other sites
Stormshrug
As a general rule, Rending is a waste on any attacks that ignore armor, regardless of whether or not it stacks. Adding 1.5~ to 1 in 6 armor penetration rolls is pretty mediocre. -Stormshrug Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/202985-is-rending-waisted-on-a-pf/page/2/#findComment-2423487 Share on other sites
