Chain axes on Assault squads!?

A question arose at my local gaming clubimajig on saturday, when some young lad had walked in, saying he wanted to o a khorne army as blood angels proxies. The GW manager said sure thing and all that, but pointd out (as the kid only was doing it for the chain axes) that on page 25 of the BA codex an assault squad member has a chainaxe.

The thing is that I am not the king of all this which army can use which weapons when it comes to fluff, but it had always been my understanding that khorne were the only ones to use chainaxes. After seeing this image I have thought about kitting my assualt seargeant with a de-khornified chainaxe as a counts as power weapon/ fist, which ever seems reasonable in the end. Am I right that Khorne/ chaos are the only users of chainaxes or is it so that we can use them as well?

Thanks

P.S. I searched for this topic so sod's law its already been brought up, at which point I am sorry ;)

I got the impression that the Flesh Tearers use chain axes, as well there are pictures in the BA dex which have Chain axes.

I say GO for it...while I wouldn't use Khorne models myself I don't like the helmets I would buy a crap ton of of bitz off the net and make them that way. (Though buying Khorne boxes isn't bad cause they have those nifty running legs)

yeah the Chain axe is the tearer's weapon of choice....kinda strange seth has an eviserator but I guess they didn't want a "loyal Khârn" character. As for the osther BA succesors there is no real BA weapon like there are for certain other chapters, IE SW axe, DA sword and the like so there is nothing that says they cant have them. I've always wanted to do a couple of assualt squads with Chain axe's they are just very hard to obtain.
I've 20 of the forge world chain axes, very nice bits of kit. My DC has a few members equipped with either one or two of them. I don't see any problem with arming them with a chain axe's, game wise it's no different to a chainsword correct me if I'm wrong but I've never seen any rule difference between the two. I'll be sharing out the Chain Axe love amongst my RAS as well, I think it add's a small amount of character to the squad having a variation on standard weapon loadout(contradiction? maybe). Plus they just look so :) cool.

Well a few Chaos codice's ago they did mean that you could never have better than a 4+ save, I'm not too sure about now though. Go ahead and use them though they look cool and as you can't have proper chain axe's on BA anyhow just count them as a chainsword equivalent.... even most tournies wouldnt mind...

It says in the list "Close combat weapon" and doesn't give any specifics on what they are. As stated before,Chain axes were the common weapon pre-heresy and for a short time post-heresy. Then a STC was discovered for Chainswords, which were lighter and faster to weild (fluff wise,no in game difference this edition) and so replaced the Chain Axes for the most part. Any Chainaxes being used currently would be quite old,but the Tech Priests are more then capable of keeping them working. They do the same with Boltgun's after all.

And yes...Chain axes look far cooler. Finding out that FW sells them I now have to head there myself for my Wolves.

i have never seen anything to say that all chain axes were destroyed on the imperial side of things. some chapters would surely have some left and im sure the mechanicum could still produce them. not much different from chainswords. so i dont see why you couldny use chain axes from khorne sets, just shave off anything that would show them being chaos related and your all set.
