Something, Something Space Wolves

Recommended Posts

3 more squads off the list please! I have now finished my Grey Hunters (led by He-man :P ), Brother Ancient Skeld Wolfkin (Ven. Dread.), and Brother Rune Priest Thorvald Daemonbane. I am also please to announce that the Drop Pod is half done and Sven himself is nearly built, all that leaves is the 5 Wolf Scouts! But enough of the future lets look to the present and my newly done models:

You'll notice there is not Battle Damage and that the shoulder pads are mostly blank, but that is because to make the deadline for the Space Wolves Sub-forum Painting Challenge I may need to miss them out :( but they will be painted to a good standard for gaming!!! Also the bases are getting done as a whole army thing at the end.

C&C welcome

Fowlie

::EDIT:: Crap! Just realised Thorvald's shoulder pads are the wrong way round! Will sort that tomorrow

Really diggin the models! What recipe did you use for the grey?

Thanks man. It's quite difficult to gauge the exact mixes as I'm never really precise but it's probably these:

-Shadow Grey Basecoat

-Wash Badab Black (fairly heavy but not too much)

-Reapply Shadow Grey to all but the recesses of the model (I tend to overbursh it heavily for the sake of speed now but the first few squads it was layered on, not much difference I think)

-Layer on a 2:1 mix of Shadow Grey:Codex Grey to where the light should hit he armour (I go for a Light source above the model and so paint this onto the upper half(ish) of each armour plate, on the legs I do it in lines down the leg which you can kinda see on Thorvald. But it can be done with any light source.)

-Following the same rule for the above highlight, apply a 1:1 mix of Shadow Grey:Codex Grey to the armour, only this time it should cover less of the armour and really be focussed on the upper facing (or which ever one is closest to you light source).

-At this point the amour looks very bright so now you need to darken it with a wash of Devlan Mud (this also helps to take out some of the blue from the colour). I tend to just do one coat of slightly watered down Devlan Mud although if you want it darker you could do 2 or 3. It's also worth noting at this point that this can result in an odd powder pale brown gather in the recesses of the armour but since this is mainly on the joints which get painted over it doesn't really matter.

Hope that helps, if you want to know how the Battle Damage is done as well just say.

Till Later,

Fowlie

PS I tried to find a model that helps explain the leg thin but the wash shades it don and it's hard to get a photo of it, I'll try to get one when painting up my Wolf Lord to show you.

Cheers Mick!

At this very moment I am sitting waiting for the Devlan Mud on my drop pod to dry so that i can start building it, hopefully get pics up tomorrow!!! That then leaves me with 3 days to do the 5 Wolf Scout and Wolf Lord and all the bases :tu:

Thanks for reading

So I've finished the Drop Pod! Yay! Just 6 models to do... in 4 days!!!

But enough of my dilemmas, here is the Drop Pod.

I took some WiP shots to show the interior first, sorry about the bad quality I just quickly snapped these before I went to bed.

This Drop Pod shall be for my Wolf Guard and Wolf Lord and so has been converted to have larger harnesses:

The Minimap I painted onto it, you can also see the harnesses better:

And here's the finished Pod:

Now, there is a slight issue with the door seeing as I had to convert the harnesses, oops:

"Dear passengers this is your Machine Spirit speaking. I am afraid to announce that the cabin may heat up slightly as we enter the planet's atmosphere as we are having some issues with the doors. We apologies for this minor incovenience and hope you chose to drop with us again, thank you."

C and C welcome as always.

Till the next time

Fowlie

so space wolves do wear helmets? or what, cuz fluff says they hate em cuz they dul their senses (wolf senses ftw) but a lot of minis have helmets ... me confussed

Well, I think a majority of them prefer not to wear helmets, but sometimes you just have to out of necessity.

Yeah, well I didnt want many duplicate heads and so decided that some Blood Claws would have them as they aren really proper space wolves yet and so haven't got the full on wolfy senses thing going on. I also gave the Grey Hunter special weaponists ones to make the more easily identifiable and cuase i reckon they would need them so they could check weapon systems etc.

you know you may just have started me on collecting SW

My work here is done! *Rides off into the sunset on Thunderwolf* :)

Minor update here, just to say that the Wolf Scouts and Lord are Green Stuufed and only need some pouches/grenades before I can spray them(which will be tomorrow after I get home). That should hopefully mean that I can just make the Paintig challenge deadline and no more! ^_^

I was going to have pictures for you but as my mild back luck would have it the camera died just as I was about to push the button to take the first picture, no joke!!! :woot:

The battery is charging so as soon as they are ready for spraying I'll snap a few pics for you guys, until then you'll just have to take my word on how kick-ass they look :P

Right, here are the WiP pics i promised. They were already primed before I remembered to take photos so you they may be had to see properly, but anywho.

First up the Wolf Scouts:

And now, the Wolf Lord himself, the big S.B, the one, the only SVEN BLOODHOWL!!!! :P

gallery_49580_4975_680464.jpg

A profile shot so that you can see he is pointing, not shaking his fist:

gallery_49580_4975_1598940.jpg

His arms are just tacked on at the moment but will be magnetised in time.

Hope to get as much done tonight as possible, finish them tomorrow.

As always C&C welcome,

Fowlie

As you can see from my sig I have completed the Challenge, Yay!!!

I quickly did Sven and the Scouts up to a standard suitable for the challenge so these are technically still WiP with refinements needed on them but hey, they're gamable, so here are the pics:

Wolf Scout Specialists (Power Weapon and Melta):

gallery_49580_4975_390012.jpg

The other 3:

gallery_49580_4975_1392324.jpg

Sven:

gallery_49580_4975_378312.jpg

gallery_49580_4975_1647494.jpg

gallery_49580_4975_113812.jpg

As you can see lots of refinements are needed to them, and chances are I'll miss some stuff out so if you see anything you think could be touched up then feel free to say.

After these guys are properly finished I need to base the army and paint on Sven's Icon onto all the shoulder pads  , but who said painting an army was quick and easy... oh yeah, army painter :P

Hope you enjoy these, C&C welcome

Fowlie

@mrun0riginal: I do plan to do the symbols but there is oh so much to be done, heres what I plan do to bit by bit over the rest of the year-

-Get Thorvald's shoulder pads painted the right way round,

-Paint all the details I somehow missed on Skeld,

-Paint the Grey Hunters' Wolf Banner,

-Built and paint Sven's other weapon loadouts,

-Touch up Sven and the Scouts seeing as they were a bit rushed 9this includes painting his saga onto him),

-Touch up anything else as I see fit,

-Paint on Sven symbol to every shoulder pad (perhaps not Scouts though),

-Base army (have now got PVA)

-Finally get round to building that Lone Wolf from the second post

It's a lot to do but I hope to get it done by the new year, then I can start on my Disciples of Caliban.
