Help Me Think of a Chapter Name

It started as a request for a name, but you all have given me tons of ideas and lots of things to think about for my chapter.

I'd really prefer NOT to be a Blood Angels successor. Frankly, I'm not that big of a fan of their fluff/history. My favorite Space Marine legion has to be the Dark Angels. I'd love to run my chapter as a Dark Angels Successor. My whole theme of having a specialized fast mechanized company could even be a Ravenwing variant of sorts. They use bikes and speeders, I use fast razorbacks and predators.

My biggest issue is: how do I explain, fluff wise, how young chapter has access to faster razorbacks and predators than most other marines (aside from the Blood Angels family). I can see like... 3 ways.

1) The Blood Angels or one of it successors shares this fast engine tech with my chapter. This is HIGHLY unlikely, but I suppose it *could* be possible if my chapter were to do something remarkable for the Blood Angels. But, this would be very difficult to explain fluff wise without it sound just ridiculous "and den Seth was all omg u guyz R gud too and u fite gud and u can have fast 1's too now lulz".

2) My chapter get's something similar - but more limited, from the Adeptus Mechanicus. Perhaps my chapter does something of value for the AdMech, or maybe they find a few pages of an STC hard-copy hidden somewhere. In turn the AdMech gives them some new engine tech. Perhaps it performs on equal level to the Blood Angels engines, but it's got a lot of limitations. Like, it can't handle heavier weapons - so it doesn't work on Vindicators and Whirlwinds. Also, these ones aren't nearly as durable or efficient as the Blood Angels, so they require a lot of maintenance and upkeep - meaning that maybe only my first company has access to them, as well as a small contingent of tech marines.

3) Just say "screw the fluff" and give my chapter anything it wants. This is just silly to me and I can't see myself ever going with this option.

4) Maybe you have better ideas? Thoughts?

That could work. I'd have to see it written up to see exactly how it works out, but the theory is OK.

Hmm, let's see.

I'd personally not justify it within the story at all. It's a bit like people justifying Death-Company-alikes, in that it will read like someone trying to justify something from another codex, if you see what I mean. Perhaps just talking about how your ravenwing equivalent relies as much on armour and assault marines as bikers would suffice - people can draw their own conclusions then. :D

Did you settle on a name for your chapter in the end, by the way?

I loled. If you added this to your chapters history and i read it, it would totally make my day :D

Well, a few ecsentric individual tech priests have been known to design things that would be seen as heresy by the rest of the AdMech.. prehaps your chapter could help this individual out by capturing something for him, wich lead him and his servitors to become friendly with you and, far away from the eyes of the general public, he could work on some fast engine tech for you... or something like that.

You know, this is probably the best way to do it. Just emphasize my chapter's tactics and preferred style of battle, without going into detail as far as equipment and whatnot (specifically, trying to explain fluff wise why I'll be playing them as Blood Angels). That also gives me the flexibility to play them using the vanilla marine codex as I add more/different models, or even using the Dark Angels codex (as they are going to be a Dark Angels successor after all). Yeah, I think I'll go that route. Flexibility gives me more options on the table, and keeps me from having to write some questionable fluff explaining why I use something on the table that I shouldn't really have access to.

As for the name, I got good suggestions here and a lot of PMs and the ones that really stood out to me were the ones with the Latin feel to them. So, I'm going to go with Angels Nocturna for my chapter. Now to continue writing my fluff, as well as start building/painting models (though I've got some key pieces to order still).

Thanks everyone for the help!
