BA HQs: Librarian, Astorath and Lemartes

Hi there! I'm starting a BA army (first 40k army, used to play Fantasy some years ago), and, as GW ICs are so expensive, i decided to go DIY. I only have bitz from DC box & command squad, so that's what I used!

Libby:

Sang. Priest:

Haven't glued the JPs, but they will be a DC JP for the Priest and Lemartes' for the Libby (a HQ must weigh!)

I'm taking my exams at university right now, and after I'm going to Ghana to work in a paediatric hospital, so they won't be finished till august...

I agree with Mike on the chalice, it could be a little bit smaller. Otherwise, nice use of plastic to make some great minis!

Question on the Libby, is his psychic hood made from a shoulder pad? Was thinking of doing something similar if I ever got round to doing Blood Ravens...

Good start, keep going!

The hood is made out of a shoulder pad, and it's quite easy indeed. I got it firs try, and even though in the picture it looks a bit crumpy, it's really smoot once primed!

About the blood chalice, I had the same feeling, but I didn't have more shoulder pads and I didn't want to risk cutting and spoiling it, so I left it as it is. Maybe next time I will try something different, but for the moment I think it looks good enough. Besides, there will be no doubt he's a priest!

  • 2 weeks later...

Had an exam today, the hardest in the whole career i think (around 1200 pages of neurology, haematology, infectious diseases, rheumatology and al the -logy's one can imagine), so i decided to take the rest of the day off and (apart from having a big siesta, as a good spaniard) I started painting my librarian and Astorath. Didn't take pictures of Astro, even though I worked on him most of the time, I'll post them tomorrow!

The libby so far:

As always, C&C welcome but don't be too hard, I'm a beginner!!

Astorath looks good in the pic, so he must be looking pretty awesome in real life! :P Nice job on the blade of the axe too!

I think your models are looking good (especially for a beginner!) But there are a few mold lines on the librarian's weapon that need to be cleaned up. I only say this because I recently stuffed up what could've been a great paintjob just due to mold lines...

Ps have you used the old GW inks on Astorath and Lemartes>?

Yep! My cousin gave me a full box of paints, brushes and some fantasy and LOTR models (most of them were dry, but I still could rescue about ten). As Bob marley sung... shiny shiny! I hope the gloss will go once varnished!

I'll file those mould lines, thanks for the advice!

One question: I don't know how to paint the libby's weapon's wings, any idea?

Hmmm, the wings. I always work up mine from codex grey-space wolves grey-asurman blue wash-bleached bone-white. (that is a progressive highlight scheme) That mix always pays dividends for me so yeah.

*Then again though, maybe your wings would benefit from a silver or gold look as (I assume) they are a part of the "hitty" bit of the weapon? As always though, you'll have to decide what's best for you. You're the one that'll look at the model most!! :)

Wow. Just wow.

Astorath is fantastic!! :P That painting is really, really well done!

One thing I noticed, seems somewhat obvious but, uh, the axe...is it meant to be so crooked?

Seems to really standout in the second and third shots.

But thats the only flaw I can see! Brilliant painting man, looking forward to alot more!

Well, as it's the dorsal part of the spine, it just didn't look good making it straight (the spine is bent forwards in the thorax section, thats called thoracic kyphosis). Maybe it's a bit uncomfortable combat-wise, but anatomy-wise it's correct, I can assure you!
