Defiler Question

Okay, guys, I'm new to the forums and 40k. I'm running a 1750 Point list, and it seems to be competetive so far.

I have a question about my two defilers in particular.

I have them as the base model, +Havoc Missiles for 5pts, +TL Lascannon for +20pts, I think it is. My question is this:

Can I fire all three weapons in my shooting phase, or must i make a choice between firing my heavy torso-mounted cannon and the side "arm" guns? The heavy gun in Ordnance, and there was some muddiness to the rules.

Thanks for your help,

Rahl

I appreciate the responses. To the above, I don't have the rulebook but our little group does. Where the muddiness came from was someone else trying to explain it to me :) . So, I 2 CCW's seems to be the choice. Do you guys just buy the bits for another of those tentacle-monster hands or did you make your own?

There are many ways to make extra close combat weapons for your defilers some successful...some not so much

there is buying 2 defilers and putting both tentacle arms on one defiler

works pretty well

there is dreadnaught closecombat weapons from forgeworld

...hmmm not so good

then there is using parts from a soulgrinder kit

just right ;)

the soulgrinder comes with a spare defiler claw and a spare sword or pincer peeeeeerrrrfect

Or go wild and build them like this.

Now its feet also count as Dread ccw.

Doing this allows your opponent to hit them from pretty much anywhere on the field. Bad choice in my opinion.

let's be honest, a defiler is a pretty big model already.

If you can't see it at all normally, then you are using very big terrain!

This wouldn't concern me overmuch.

Plus now it's the best fire magnet out there, how can you not shoot at it? Gives the rest of your army a free pass :P

As for weapons, the Reaper AC isn't a bad option as a backup to the BC if you play against alot of low AV vehicles like Raiders or Speeders because it out-performs the BC against those targets.

I use actual size for shooting from and at it, actual size being on its middle.

That is against the rules though. If any part of the legs, arms, torso or head is visible, it's a legit target for shooting attacks.

They do however look awesome like that.

The sad thing is that in my area, alot of the terrain that hides my normal defiler can hide a bipedal defiler. So woot for bipedal defilers, yeah!

am cerious , how do your opponents deal with the fact that a four/six legged defiler doesnt see troops behind a rhino and a tall one does ?

Actually, vehicle wise, it's all about the main chasis. So technically speaking, the torso is the main chasis of the "walker," meaning that that is the spot you need to be able to draw LoS to.
Hull or turret. p. 60 iirc.
