Posting WIP before i get distracted

Recommended Posts

Hi all, my first post here. Before i start please excuse the poor photography skills, have never been good with cameras.

I wanted to post this wip for my marines because.. i get distracted really easily so it may never get beyond this stage i currently have around 300 marine legs cleaned up and glued on bases waiting for me to get around to not ignoring them.

The idea for the chapter is a freshly declared renegade force as little as years not even really reaching into decades ago. Recruited from a feral, primitive world which holds the belief that their god holding the form of a giant black wolf hunts the battlefields taking the souls of the strong to be one with him, increasing his power further with each soul taken.

They follow this through to their own beliefs that a beings soul can be taken into them, its strength stolen by the devouring of the targets heart.

Even when loyalist their beliefs and ways were regarded as excess and often the target of observation until they went too far.

Fighting a battle with a foe far supperior in number than themselves alongside other loyalists they wanted to gain the glory of the battles victory, that lust was the cause of their fall, an attached part regiment of guardsmen slain to the man their hearts taken in the belief that is what was needed for the mearines to gain victory.

In the short years since their fall ther numbers have begun to decline though as it was so recently they still maintain a number of the loyalist weaponry and equipment, replacement parts repaired or scavenged in battle with either loyalist or chaos forces.

Though they sport some parts of armour from the chaos followers that is in replacement of damage and at this time they follow no chaos god and have no connection with the warp.

I haven't yet got a chapter badge for them, and the name of the soul hunters is only..very loose at the minute it could change.

I needed a quick scheme for painting and wanting it to look stained, a bit worn.

I can't take too much credit for the shading, i need to get things painted quickly so everything which is the bone colour is a simple army painter skeleton bone undercoat spray then a dark tone army painter stain. No highlighting on the bone bit at all just the shade dip painted on.

This is a...very early stage wip so far they are/were concept pieces to check that the colour scheme at least vaguelly worked. I now have a dread, 2 rhinos, a razorback, about 35 more marines all finished in the bone colour and ready for the extra colours and work but nothing else finished yet.

Pics of the priest painted last night and wip counts as logan grimnar.

Quick question about the priest, i feel that either the cloak or the loin cloth needs to be a different colour to make them look seperate from the armour but don't want to expand the palette much if at all. I think that black may make the cloak too similar to the shoulder fur to work.. any opinions?

The cloth does need something. Perhaps a coat or two of Baal red ink wash to help tie it in with the red shoulder pad?

That would be a simple method of contrasting the existing coulour while not expanding the palette much.
