The Battles of Shadow Lord Kjaran Coldheart

Recommended Posts

hey all,

this is about the battles of my Shadow Wolves, or those battles i remember to record and take pictures of. I'll try to remember as much as i can, and hope you all enjoy the pictures.

This was a recent Apoc game with me and 3 friends. We each brought 6000 pts. With 4 players, we made teams based on common sense. I allied with my friend Nick, here on B&C as Brother Grius, who brought Black Templars and Grey Knights. Our opponents brought Imperial Fists (Hector) and Chaos Space Marines (Bill with lots of Thousand Sons) and Chaos Daemons.

There are 5 objectives, 1 in each of our deployment zones, and 3 spaced evenly across the table.

My list was: (by the way, I was 2 points over. didn’t see that till later when I remembered to add a combi-plasma that I had in the army)

Logan Grimnar, Njal Stormcaller with Arjac Rockfist and 5 WG TDA in Land Raider Crusader

Wolf Lord and Wolf Priest in TDA, 6 Wolf Guard in TDA in Land Raider Crusader

Wolf Guard Battle Leader with 8 Blood Claws in Rhino

Wolf Priest with 8 Blood Claws in Rhino

Rune Priest in TDA

Wolf Guard Battle Leader on TWM, with TWC pack of 3

4 Grey Hunter packs of 9 with WG in PA, Drop Pod

2 Grey Hunter packs of 9 with WG in Pa, Rhino

2 Wolf Scout packs

4 Long Fang Packs

I don’t remember exactly what my ally and opponents brought, so I’ll let the pictures tell. We each decided on having 2 Assets each, so 4 for the team. I took a Vortex Grenade and Trophy Kill (Lord of Change) , my ally took a Spearhead formation (we okayed this) and Careful Planning. My opponents took a Chaos Shrine and Doomsday Device (Bill) and Disruption Beacon and I didn’t catch the other. (Hector).

On to the pictures!

Turn 1, a Grey Hunter Pack land in front of Thousand Sons surrounding the Chaos Altar and use their Vortex Grenade to destroy it. (the green template represents the Vortex Grenade). Hector’s Disruption Beacon fails to prevent this,

A 2nd Grey Hunter pack performs a high risk deep strike to destroy a Land Raider containing 4 Chaos Lords. The melta gun misses. Hector’s Disruption Beacon again fails to prevent this.

A parting shot of the valiant, but doomed Grey Hunter Pack. The traitor Imperial Fists will support the Thousand Sons squads in wiping them out in a single volley.

The other Grey Hunter pack, also doomed, as the Chaos Lords will exit their transport to deal with them.

Seriously, the last pick of the doomed Grey Hunter pack.

Apparently there is a picture limit per post, and this damn forum keeps merging my posts then reminding me of this. will wait for a bit and try to contine the picture post.

The Lord of Change nearly scatters off the table, but luck (or Tzeentch) keeps him at the table edge.

In response to the arrival of Daemons, the Blood Claw and Grey Hunter packs redirect themselves to the battle for the Left objective.

In response to the arrival of the Daemons, Bruenor Thunderkin brings his TWC pack to battle. The Emperor’s Champion comes to the Predator tanks arrival, and Shadow Lord Kjaran Coldheart brings the battle directly to the Lord of Change.

FOR DORN! The Emperor’s Champion and his Crusader Squad destroys the Nurgle Daemon Prince in a single round of combat!

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i65/kieran_m/Space%20Wolves/Apoc%20n-k%20vs%20b-h/100_1755.jpg

Bruenor Thunderkin and his TWC pack fail to destroy the Great Unclean One on the charge, but will do so in the following combat phase.

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i65/kieran_m/Space%20Wolves/Apoc%20n-k%20vs%20b-h/100_1756.jpg

The Lord of Change directs his attacks to Kjaran Coldheart, but is largely thwarted due to his Storm Shield. However, the Lord of Change proves to be a dire threat in combat, taking another 2 phases of combat before being sent back to the Warp.

A bad outflank roll leaves the Black Templar Castellan and Command Squad at the mercy of daemons and traitors. Though losing most of the squad , they will defeat their traitor brethren in CC.

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i65/kieran_m/Space%20Wolves/Apoc%20n-k%20vs%20b-h/100_1758.jpg

Difficult terrain immobilizes their Land Raider, but Logan still launches as assault on the combined unit of 4 Chaos Lords. Arjac will throw his hammer and destroy 1 of the 4 in the shooting phase. In assault, Logan and Njal fail to make base contact, the Chaos Lords kill 3 of the WG and wounds Arjac, while Arjac kills 1 in CC and the squad wounds the Khorne Lord. The squad stays locked in CC.

The Doomsday Device goes off! Bill rolls Double 6’s, meaning everything in a random range, which turns out to be 18in. This will destroy 888 points of mine and around 800 points of my ally. Then this destroys 1,660 points of his ally and NONE of his! This also takes away the left objective.

Captain Stern makes his invul save, at he was just inside the 18in sphere of death. The objective he was controlling along with one of my Grey Hunter Packs in a Rhino wasn’t so lucky.

WGBL Lars Wraithdoom makes his invul save, sparing him from the blast. The Rhino he was in and the Blood Claw pack he was leading were claimed by the blast. The mass volley of 3 Thousand Sons squads will remove him from contesting their objective.

The games 5 objectives:

Left: destroyed by Doomsday Device

Center: Contested by Black Templars and traitor Imperial Fists.

Right: Held by Traitor Imperial Fists

Enemy Objective: Held enemy Thousand Sons

Loyalist Objective: Held by Space Wolves

Trophy Kill: Held by Space Wolves

Result: DRAW

We had the advantage by holding the Left and Center Objectives, but traitor Imperial Fists Land Speeders and Dreadnoughts arrived to contest the Center and the Doomsday Device removed both the Grey Hunters holding it and the Left objective itself.

It was a fun game, and the damage done by the Doomsday Device was a bit stupid, but all in all I was happy that my Wolves did some good damage, but sad that Shadow Lord Kjaran Coldheart failed to kill the Lord of Change, thus failing his vow. He did lead the squad that claimed it, so all is not lost.

@WG Nostromo: it was a hard fight but lax game. we are all good friends and were just messing around. rules issues were settled fast and most mocking was down.

i thought we had it till that damn Doomsday device went off. as funning as it was, learning that we went from a loss to a draw kinda sucked. but then again, the dice gods are fickle so it could have gone much worse (we could have lost the loyalist objective as well!)

@Cain:we started around 5ish, little after, and played till 9:30. we had a pizza break, and some smoke breaks, so we roughly did 3 turns of Apoc in under/around 4 hours. and not casting stones, but stating facts, my ally and i turns were very fast as we worked together and planned ahead. the traitors were less...cohesive than we were. if we were stricter on time we might have got another turn in, but it was just a fun game.

I am glad that you are playing apoc. Funny isn't it just a few years before that book was released we were piling our minis on a 4 by 6 late nights and throwing down! Your wolves look very good and cohesive as well. I wish I could have been their. One of these years.. More pic's!

i like Apoc when i know who is playing...our community has a few that i wouldnt want to play against.

and yea, i remember the massive battles we had in your garage. those things were insane. then GW made the Apoc rules making it even insaner!

thanks for the props, and whenever your in town we got to get a massive fight going.

i got about 3 more albums of recent battles that i can post, just have to get around the lazy factor.
