Karsus
Hi all. My personal favorite wargear on SW armory is Wolf Claw, which I can give to the Wolf Lord and Wolf Guards (there might be other units, but I cannot look for it now). Well, one good thing about our codex is that we can choose to put either one or two/pair of Wolf Claws on those units. However, I'm not sure which option will be more optimized. One WC: you can use ranged weapon or even Storm Shield, and still get the reroll Pair of WCs: +1 A Personally I think the pair looks better but I want to optimize my units too. Which option do you guys think is more optimized/powerful/all-round? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/203653-one-or-two-wolf-claws/ Share on other sites
CainTheHunter
None of them is optimised. It's just the questions, You stated, for which You have to find answers - Your answers. Do You want that 3++ save or extra attack or a plain S4 AP5 12" shot in the face. It's the same as the story with GH squad composition - do You want that extra free special weapon or rather You'd go for Ld increase, cheaper PF and combi-bolter in the form of WG pack leader. Personally, I'm not using WC on power armor models (this will change when I will get some TWC) - all my WC are on Termie Wolf Guard. I have one with twin WC, and as a matter of preference I tend to give WC rather than PW to those wielding assault cannon/heavy flamer. Shieldwall
I don't put Wolfclaws on PA models either, on Terminators however, they are an insanely good and cheap choice. Throw in a combi- melta/plasma and you got a unit that's hardly any more expensive than a Vanillanator and will, after disembarking, kill everything. PKAwolf
I run my wolf lord (when I run one) with dual claws, not because I want to, but because I bought the 'wolverine wolf guard dude' and must have been posessed the night I painted him because it is now The Best Looking Thing in my Whole Army. things will change however when I get some TWC incidentlly, I havent painted anything since him because I cant imagine being able to reproduce that level of talent again Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/203653-one-or-two-wolf-claws/#findComment-2428176 Share on other sites
Stormshrug
It varies, choice to choice: Wolf Lord and Wolf Guard Battle Leader - I'd say the 'optimized' offhand weapons to go with a Wolf Claw are a Storm Shield and a Second Wolf Claw. I personally wouldn't use with a Plasma Pistol, and most certainly wouldn't bother with a Bolt Pistol (Frost Blade is better if you're planning to use a ranged weapon, IMO). So the question here is: do you want more raw attack power, or the amazing defense provided by a Storm Shield. This is a hard choice to 'optimize,' because it depends on a lot of different factors, first and foremost: what are you fighting?. Either choice will be powerful, however. Wolf Guard, Power Armor - It's pricy to do a pair, and the benefit is somewhat diminished because Wolf Guard don't have the amazing combat stats (Init. and WS) of our HQ choices. I'd probably be inclined to do Wolf Claw + Combi-Weapon on most Power Armor Wolf Guard, if I buy one. Wolf Guard, TDA - Replacing the Power Weapon with a Wolf Claw is kind of a gimme at 5 points if you're not buying another weapon. For the offhand, however, your options here are many: Storm Bolter, Assault Cannon, Heavy Flamer, Storm Shield, Combi-Weapon, and, of course, second Wolf Claw. It really depends what you want. Thanks to Relentless, Terminators can make excellent use of shooting weapons and still assault, which is nice, but you'll get more raw attack power from a second Wolf Claw. If you don't really want to shoot, though, double Wolf Claw is the only cost effective way to get +1 Attack. It really depends what you want. With my Wolf Guard Terminators, I like to mix up my choices a bit, so I have a force fairly balanced to fight everything. -Stormshrug Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/203653-one-or-two-wolf-claws/#findComment-2428200 Share on other sites
